MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Pulled my engine today.

Well they'd be a bit bent then, progress halted due to a combination of CBA and needing to order another clutch as a killed a Stage 3 clutch from competition clutch in <10k miles

Ooer - very bendy.

Are you attributing your clutch life due to how you drive it - or is it a bad clutch?

Just changed the alternator on mine - it stopped charging the battery when the snow set in. Also managed to rip the undertray off when getting stuck on the hill on my lane. Snowy weather sure is fun.

I think clutch life is just the abuse it got. It's been launched at pod about 40 times, plus a good many more on then road and then liberal amounts of flat foot shifting too

Had a good time at Bedford Autodrome yesterday. It was a bit damp, which is perfect for the MX5 :p Twitchy rear coming out of most corners and only dropped it once haha.

Looks similar conditions to the date I did, great fun sliding around, amazing how little grip there is in those conditions though!

3:30 onwards for most of mine, or just after 2 minutes for our only spin :p

Want to get back out again, but not sure when it's going to be at the moment, be nice if we can get on the same day as we originally were before the snow delayed it

Nice. Yeah would be good (we had 3 MX5s in our group and there were about another 3-4 there as well), expect we'll do one there again in the early summer.

Hoping I can finally sort the belt issues mine is having, it keeps twisting the alternator belt then destroying it at the minute. The car has only done around 100 miles since I change the clutch at the start of October because of this! Really need to drive it more

Just waiting on a full set of genuine Subaru gaskets, studs, bolts and nuts for the turbo/downpipe, and I need to source a fresh set of o-rings/seals for the Injectors

Did I miss it and you've bought a 2nd hand engine to bolt all that and your old turbo kit on?

Yea I bought another engine with much less mileage on it that the slightly broken one, which I'll then refit with all the turbo goodness and a load of new parts too .

I wasn't really planning on replacing another clutch this soon but I guess when it's used the way it is then it's the price you pay

Had a right mare with mine doing this recently, could not get the tension right at all, squealing like a banshee, went through 3 belts before I sorted it.
On another note mine has now passed the 150k mark!
I treated her with new wheels and this year I will be fitting the supercharger and ME221. (Not that I've had the charger in my shed for 4 years....)

It is a pig to get the tension right. I found that my pattern part belts had a different profile too so even with the right tension they were not sitting in the pulley properly so there was a lot of friction as the were pulled in and the belt got very hot as a result. I swapped them out for Mazda ones when the cambelt was done and once I'd re-tensioned them properly all was well. The garage did their best getting the tension right but it gave a little squeal from a cold start so I adjusted it slightly.

Going to get my one out of hibernation soon with the usual routine of pointless oil change (I only do about 1000 miles a year!) and polish / wax as it always looks a bit dull after having the cover on for 5 months. Every year I plan to do X, Y and Z and never end up doing it all. This years plan is just to enjoy it as is.

Mine has been going through some changes while sitting in the garage during the snow and salt month lol.

New indicator units as old ones were fogging up, gv style lip, new wheel nuts (wooo)
