Just a quick one, which of these tyres would you go for on mk2.5 1.8 mx5? Wife needs 4 new tyres this month. Leaning towards the Uniroyal.

I hear you ;) rainsports are pretty good in the wet which is why I'm leaning towards them

That's the reason for the new tyres actually, managed to buy some 16" sport alloys.

GSD3's are the best tyres i had on the 5 simply fantastic, a 15" rim really is the best size for the MX5, i'd have stuck with them tbh.

I'm not sure if Sport contact's are still being made in that size but if so i'd buy a set of them.

The 15" wheels were horrid aftermarket rubbish, and the wife didn't like any of the oem 15". So we ended up with oem 16" sport alloys.

OK so rainsports are out of stock and on back order until March! So for around the same price I'm thinking the hankooks.

I've tried T1-S, T1-R, GSD3's, PE2's, Federal 595RS-R, R888, and some sort of Vredstein when I first bought the car. Obviously the R888 and RSR are track focused tyres, but I'd say you won't go far wrong with the GSD3's or PE2's. Both nice tyres but I think I preferred the PE2.

If you're on a budget the T1-R's are cheap and I guess they're great for the money at nearly half the price of the PE2's. I doubt a non enthusiastic driver could tell the difference.

I test drove a Z4 Coupe with rainsports on and was sideways almost immediately..

Maybe in a car with power, in a lightweight low powered MX-5 then they're amazing. And as for it being a good thing, it is a good thing as I dont want to be going round a corner to be finding myself going sideways
