I have noticed this for a while now, but never knew if it was just my mouse or if all of them do it :p, doesn't get on my nerves, but was wondering if everyone elses was the same? :p

Well I don't have an MX518 but next to me I have an old Dell and and older Logitech and both are louder scrolling up. I have never noticed before though.

Anyway surely you are in the best position to test another one :p

my 518 is at work so i cant test, but i think its the same. my g9 is the same also, quieter scrolling up than down. I think its just the wheel mech tbh.

If I had to describe it. Each of my clicks down on my Logitech Sound like a quiet bass drum kind of sound whereas the scroll up sounds like a higher and louder snare drum.

The pin used to generate each click means all mx518 mice will have a slightly different sound. Shown here to left of wheel:

Any subtle changes to the shape of that pin will adjust the tactile feedback, noise level and symmetry of both. I've had to modify mine a few times to get the wheel semi-decent. You'll need a spare set of feet if you attempt this. Also be warned, a spring on the other side tends to fly off into the distance when removed :)

Email Logitech customer support, if you are lucky you might get a new MX518 or the new G400. Most of the time they will give you a 50% off voucher though.
