My 205 Gtis

The 205 has always been in my list of cars i've always wanted ever since my 205 Junior 1.1

I wish i'd bought one but now with the ever increasing prices, no where to really store it and a young family it would probably be a bit pointless. My daily drive is also a WRX STi so i'm not sure if a 205 would still do as much for me. (To be fair on the 205 its probably infinitley more chuckable and theres a lot to be said about driving a car at its limit rather than driving a car at yours if you know what i mean?)

Awesome collection though. Maybe one day...

the 205 is what it is, its no mod con car and any family diesel would smoke it these days lol but they are really fun and always leave you smiling.:D

Some before and after shots of a friends 205 GTi at a rally a couple of weeks back. He's owned the car for a long time (25 years or so) and used to take his kids to school in it before it became a rally car, so quite a sentimental loss as well as financial. Still both driver and navigator walked away without a scratch and the engine and box will go straight into the 306 shell he's preparing.

that was nasty enough looking. good to know they were unhurt, lots of these died to the rally scene. :(

Oops the above doesn't look so good :(

But nice to see the OP got himself a mint 205. When I was looking at them a few weeks back I was stunned at how much they are for something half decent and usable - then the Mrs put her foot down and said no anyway :(

yeah, the first red one i bought a few years ago was mint and had full mot £800. sold it for 2k a few years later and that was 2013 i think. good examples are definitely on the price rise.

Love a 205 GTI.

When I were a lad there was a 1.9 for sale for £500. Should have bought it. Had a few pugs in the past, and loved them at the time.

i know sure you could have bought them for buttons upto the last few years, now they are crazy prices. pity we cant see into the future lol

theres plenty about for not much. it depends what we talking about. a absolute minter like any other hatch will be a premium but they aint that much.

if you want something to just hammer and hoon about in plenty in 1000-2000 range.

you could mess about hammer them and still get that back in a year or two.when you had enough :p

early escorts on the other hand are where the big moneys at .

yes i know but there isnt many decent ones for less than 5k these days.
1k - 2k will still get you a decent car and you can get lucky to like anything. a reasonable priced 205, tested and drove for few years will never loose money now these days. i dont think anyway

Wow, they look pretty clean. Nice.

Who's is the 100E over in the back of the garage? In the late 90s I used to run a 100E with a really heavily tuned Mk2 Escort engine and used to go chasing down guys in 1.9 GTIs. Of all the hot hatches from back then, the 205 GTIs were some of the quickest on the road :D

My Phase 1.5

GTI-6 Engine
Xsara VTS Box
Xsara VTS quick Rack
Plate Diff

Did the conversion because the 1.6 was shot. The conversion was a very high standard and looked almost factory imho.

Lovely.

I had 2, a white 1.9 (H reg, Phase 1.5) and a red 1.6 (J reg, 1992 Phase 2) - I eventually put a 405 Mi16 in the 1.6 and had the rear beam rebuilt, really went to town on it.

This makes me miss them! I did prefer my 306 GTi-6 though, it has to be said!

My 1.9:

The eagle eyed among you will notice full leather trim including VERY rare rear headrests!

very nice mate! few nice motors :)

Just went and looked at how much these cars are now..... Jesus! around £20K

Decent, original cars of this age are always going to fetch a premium, especially iconic car's like the 205 Gti which are sought by collector's.

Prices are only going to increase, as they get rarer and older.

Just seeing this, yeah how true plus once all the scrap, rotten cars are gone or being broken then the prices will skyrocket.

Thanks! Managed to pick one up over the weekend, original panels and paintwork. Been dry stored 10'years but a little dusty lol will stick up some pics now
