Well, I picked this car up in February but I just haven't gotten round to taking any pics. I was bored today so I took a couple.

I know it needs a wash and that puddle you see is the contents of my radiator thanks to a leaking top pipe that will be replaced at 9AM sharp tomorrow morning just as soon as the shops open again!

It's a 1990 1.6 GTI with the 1.9 wheels on obviously. K&N and a full Magnex system for at least 200 extra BHP.

I love it. Fantastic fun, pretty quick and in the best colour ;)

Crap piccies:

BTW: The grill is dusty because I've just replaced it. The old one was snapped thanks to a run in with my impatient heavyhandedness and the one that's on now has been collecting dust for a month :)

Yep that's next on my long list to get it looking completely mint.

Little bits of laquer peeling off here and there, the trim needs blackening, need new front wheel bearings...

Oh, and it's only done 60,000 miles. 58k when I bought it :)

Thats some air filter and exhaust system if it gives an extra 200 bhp :p

2 reasons.

I gave a 1.9 a whirl after I drove the one I bought and it didn't feel as confident in the corners as the 1.6. And to be honest, it didn't feel all that much faster than the 1.6.

Also, the insurance is 2 groups higher, and at 20 years old, and this being my first car, that meant a £500 difference.

All fair enough reasons! :)

I was just intrigued as I know a couple other people who bought the 1.6 over the 1.9 for pretty much the same reasons.

What is the insurance actually like on one of them?

Anyway great car, I hope it serves you well!

There is a error in the first post.

It's obvious white is the best colour! :D

Nice car, 1.6's and 1.9's, both amazing cars in their own right.

I paid £1500 for it.

Like I said - the mileage is 60,000. That's what commanded the price I guess.

edit: It's insurance group 12 so it's not too silly. The 1.9 is 14, which obviously the insurers I asked thought was a big stepup.

Far from the best colour - you missed out Cherry Red, Black, Sorrento Green, Atlantic Blue, Miami Blue and Steel Grey for starters ;)

Looks a nice example, I have to say I'd struggle to convince myself to part with £1500 for anything other than an Mi16 converted/rally prepared car but it does look clean and you seem happy with it - enjoy it!

The Magnex system is one of the few exhausts worth bothering with on the 205, does it have the manifold too or just the system?

Yeah it's got the manifold as well. It's pure stainless steel all the way through. Sounds particularly awesome when it's warmed up with plenty of popping :)

Got one myself, good choice. The 4 branch is a lovely bit of kit.
