My 5870 experience - Problems

It's definitely a bios issue but not one I can live with at the moment.

To be honest if I loved the card that much I would have stuck with it but it was more trouble than it was worth at this time.

The GT300 may well prove to be more trouble. We'll wait and see.

I may find I pick up the 5870 x2 at a time when the issues are resolved though X2's and *95's with dual gpu's tend to have their own issues in my experience.

I had a grace period with my purchase and I am exercising that right.

If you love your ATI card then fantastic. I am niether Nvidia or ATI. I take whatever is best for me at the time.

People need to calm down with blaming graphics cards for things.

More likely than not, it'll be a fault with the motherboard itself.

As for the driver issues, I'd suspect nVidia drivers haven't been removed properly

yes I cleared CMOS - that was my first thought.

I did remove nvidia drivers completely before the card ever got near my system.

Call it a motherboard issue if you like but it is now one people are aware of incase they think of purchasing the card.

It is indeed ONE issue.

Don't get me wrong, when things go wrong, it can be so frustrating trying to problem solve and I can appreciate the amount of frustration it can cause.

I personally just quickly re-install windows instead of wasting time trouble shooting.

A lot of issues that get blamed on graphics cards aren't actually the fault of the card itself.

I think it's his mouse, have you tried resetting the mouse?

Try clicking the left button then the right 6 times, if this doesn't work I'm stumped!

The end of the day, he's stated he's returning the 5870 and keeping his 280 and that's his call to make, and it is still a very good choice (should have stayed with the 280 in the first place).
