Old tights (mum) or stockings (girlfriend) stretched over intake fans will cut down on dust buildup - just need to get into habit of wiping them weekly keep em good :)

I discovered much the same thing the other day, I'd had a crash in NFS:MW and then when I rebooted it said the CPU was over threshold so when I took a look I had about as much dust and now temperatures are about 20 deg C lower. It had been left for 18 months though :o

God, When was the last time you opened your case lol.
Was the rest of your case a mes aswell?

I'd hazard a guess that the OP smokes, or at the least, lives in a house where people smoke.

Mine has NEVER become anywhere near that foul, even with over 2 years of constant and uncleaned use.

Bloody hell, did you empty your vacuum cleaner into your PC or something? :)

I was cleaning out one of my old systems the other day to recondition for my nephews and the amount of dust that was in there was pretty sick tbh.

Looks like it. It's so foul, you can see bits of human hair running off the side of that heatsink. I dread to see how the rest of your components fair.

I had the exact same heatsink on my XP2200 and I was wondering why it was shutting down every few minutes.
So I opened up the case and looked inside, I can tell you it was a lot worse then that lol, I am supprised it still works to this every day.

Rofl my Athlon XP was running for 2 years, yes 2 years without a dust cleanout and it didn't look half as bad as that :p

Do you live in a cave?

its just the standard heatsink that came with it when i got the retail 3200 64
ive got a flat now and ive just been letting it sit running at my mothers house for weeks but when i got back the alarm would go off when opening up a program im like erm.. wtf

then shut it down straight away when it got hot and decided to see whats up, yeah most fans were blocked up nand the case too but the case side has been off for months forgot toput it back on last time i was having a fiddle with it!

i will post up the picture of my bed with all the dust covering it lol

That wouldn't be recommended considering the photo posted above. ;) The heatsink looks pretty rough already.
