Ok after a day of checking out cars Id covered in my £8000 thread..

I walked away with a car completely different.

Now I am a little scared of peoples views on it, but I kinda fell in love so Ill have to just accept it.

I bought a 08 plate Jaguar X type Sovereign. With a Full Jaguar SH and 87k. I has Full leather (black with cream piping), Sat nav, Heated seats, Blutooth, uprated Alpine sound system.,Heated windscreen etc.. Its in blue and has pretty sexual alloys on it. :D

Its economy seemed great and it drove well. I drove a Titanium X mondeo straight after and it felt completely bland, uninteresting. Undeniably good quality, but it just didnt give me a sense of occasion.

The Jag I fell in love with.

Probably a stupid purchase knowing my luck, but I cant wait to collect it next week.

Ill get pics when I collect it :)

The X Type platform is certainly more involving than the later Mk4 Mondeo, so that's true.

oh and dagdagdagdagdagdag

Far from my favourite car if i'm perfectly honest, but being well into production it should have had the bugs mostly ironed out - enjoy

This is where I look like a dick, Im pretty sure its the 2.0l because the dealer website says that, although the guy who took me for a test drive talked it was the 2.2, It felt good though.

Its a purchase born without a great deal of research I admit. I looked into all my other candidate cars quite indepth but this is a car Id never considered.

here it is on Auto trader

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the mondeo platform isn't it?

Looks very nice on the outside, but that wood interior finish would grind on me.

Something I'd spend £4k on, certainly not £8k with 80k miles.

Even worse when you don't know the engine. Did you look over the V5?

Haha thats very true. I just drove it about for 20 minutes and I kinda fell in love with it.

I know it makes me seem like a fool, I admit. But it had plenty of power for me , it felt good on a dual carriage way and its trim was gorgeous.

I looked at volvos and I absolutely hate the interior of the recent ones, they are so bland and that slim console thing they use is just horrendous in my eyes.

Audi a4 and a6 were fantastic but boring, and the Mondeo titanium x has some amazing gear, but it felt huge and completely uninspiring.

I expected to walk away with one of my sensible cars Ive been going over all week, this one just stood out to me, its colour is great in the flesh and its condition was fantastic. I guess I cant avoid the fact I was maybe spontaneous but with my money, I actually felt I wouldnt regret it.

Yeah its built on a mondeo but it certainly felt more special to me. I have been flapping like hell over spending my money this week and been scared to find myself regretting a purchase but this car gave me a nice feeling that no others I tried did :)

The wood trim isnt the most attractive look I admit, but I didnt mind it as much as I thought.

I understand its a lot of cash for what it is. But I plan on keeping it for years like I did with my previous crappy motors (this being my first *decent* car). Depreciation isnt much of an issue to me and even though its just a mk3 mondeo, It still felt more to me than the mk4? titanium x I test drove too.

Anyway I feel pretty happy overall which after a week of flapping and worrying (im a right wimp) :)

It's a posh Mk3 Mondeo. Which is a good thing as the mk3 Mondeo was a great car.

Not sure about 8k on one, mind.

I'm pretty sure it shares the same diesel engine (ZSD) as the Mk3 Mondeo too.

This car is a 2.0

Looks a tidy example. Hopefully the water/spray isn't hiding anything.

I have had a good look around and there is a minor skuff in the back that should buff out, and a tiny ding on the passenger side that I only noticed on a certain angle, easily overlooked.

The wheels were all in good condition and the tyres were all good branded, and the front end had no stone chips to note.

Im looking forward to driving about in it. Even though its indeed a dagadagga :)

Id question anything Id bought because I over analyse things . So Im gonna just be positive and wait excitedly lol

Yeh definately the 2.0D version, dads just got rid of his at a similer sort of milage (77,000m i think) wasnt too bad a car really just could have done with a 6th gear though for motorway trips as you will struggle to get anymore than 42-45 mpg out of it, i had 50mpg once but i dont think it went much over 55mph :p. Dad got rid of his due to a very loud knocking/rattle when the clutch was pressed down and also it kept suffering from a glowplug warning and limp mode.

He had 5 trouble free years from it though but hes got a smaller car now as he doesnt do the milage also to warrant a diesel

Well Im slightly relieved people arent saying its a piece of crap or anything, I appreciate its maybe not everyones taste but it won me over :)

cheers for not being too harsh on me and putting too many doubts in my head lol

Excellent car, my gf and I had one and it gave us 3 years of trouble free high miles motoring for pennies really, running costs are far below anything comparable in my experience (mainly due to its mondeo origins) spec and colour on that example look good too.

I agree with previous posted re lack of 6th gear, this makes it far harsher than it could be at higher speeds, but discourages you from going above 80 I guess!

I found the gear box action on the 5sp was far more positive than a 2.2 I drove, and to be honest for day to driving the 2.0d is perfectly adequate, but not sporty in any way. Sound insulation was greatly improved in the engine bay vs equivalent mondeo I believe, but still obviously a diesel!

8k is a tad overpriced, I would have wanted approved used for that money (we paid 6750 for an approved used '53 SE 2.0d with lower miles in mid 2008)

Many people on here will find them dull, but all I can say is that I have in the past owned a fair few similar cars from BMW, MB etc. and I regret selling the X-type the most, so make of that what you will.

Thanks for that post 117 makes me feel content :)

Ill get some decent pics when I collect it next weekend (Im away this week and letting them service it).

Youre right about its drive, it wasnt sporty and I also felt 6th speed woulda been nice but it was doing a touch over 2k revs at 70 and it wasnt bad for it.

I looked online at Autotrader while I was in the garage to find how it fared against others and the price wasnt far from similar age/spec. Not a bargain or anything but it made me feel good. Loved the colour and the alpine and leather piping.

This is what i find strange, this is a car you bought for you, you never bought it to please us lot, as long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

Mate I'm a wimp and I over analyse everything. Overclockers wisdom dictates a lot of my purchases lol. This is my first deviation :-D
