Hey folks, this build is really nothing special in comparison to some of the projects in here, but it's my first full build in 8 years and don't really have anyone else to share it with, so thought some of you might appreciate it even if on a very small scale!

So I recently upgraded (which folk who have been in the 9800X3D thread will know). I upgraded everything except the GPU (3080 10Gb) as I'm waiting to go the whole hog and get a 5090 in January (or whenever I can get one).

The specs:
Case:
Lian-Li O11 Evo RGB
Mobo: Asrock X870E Taichi
CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
CPU Cooler: Lian-Li Galahad II LCD SL-INF Performance
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x32GB DDR5 PC-48000C30
OS Drive: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
Game Drive: WD SN850X 2TB
GPU: Existing 3080 10Gb (for the time being)
PSU: NZXT C1500 ATX 3.1 (It's overkill I know, but I wanted max headroom for the 5090 and beyond....and nowhere had any good ATX 3.1 PSU's in stock at 1000-1200w)

Misc:
Lian-Li vertical GPU mounting kit
6x Lian-Li SL-INF Reverse Blade fans
1x Lian-Li SL-INF (Regular) fan

I swapped out the 3 fans on the AIO for 3 of the reverse blades for the aesthetics, so the cooling config is:
Top: 3x Exhaust
Side: AIO 3x Intake
Bottom: 3x Intake
Rear: 1x Exhaust

Build Pics:

This was in the early "I'm rusty and out of practice at this" stage as I spent way more time than I expected/wanted getting the case setup the way I wanted and everything unpacked so I had to sit down take a breather and take stock .

Once I finally decided "Ok let's do this". I got the mobo, nvme's, CPU and RAM in. Then got the AIO lined up properly on the EVO's bracket (first time the bracket wouldn't clip as the radiator was slightly too low).

(Yes it's a xmas table cloth, it was the only thing on hand to protect the glass table )

Everything in, except the vertical mount and the GPU. I actually took some real time to worry about cable management this time around as usually it's pretty mediocre and "good enough" for me, but I'm quite proud of this one. (Sorry I forgot to take a pic of the backside but trust me it's actually half way decent and not just a rat's nest of cables, I promise. Can take a pic later if my trustworthiness on this is in doubt )

FIRST BOOT (Fingers crossed! :D ) [Sorry for vertical filming but I was doing it one handed and was knackered by this point ]

(This is my first AMD build in a long long time, so I quickly realised that code 15 is memory training and everything was cool)

All done, just need to put all the glass back on.

Dicking around with RGB....as you do.

......and once I finally decided on the full final setup theme (Yes I like Jinx, sue me)

Nice build! I am looking to do something very similar next year at some stage. What was your old build out of interest? How hard was it to build in that case?

My old build was:

Lian Li O11 Dynamic (OG)
ROG Strix X299-E Gaming II
Intel i9 7900X
4x8GB RAM
3080 (same one I'm currently rocking. It started with a 1080Ti though)

The O11 Evo is very easy to build in but does take a little bit of time due to the amount of modularity it has as you can mount the mobo higher or lower, vertical/horizontal and upright GPU mounting potential. The side tray for fans (or vertical GPU) can be moved in and out to account for having a radiator there or not etc etc. Lots of potential with it, including flipping it upside down and so on, but in terms of the actual building very easy.

Curious but why are the OS and game drive different models?

When I was looking at what drives to get, I already had in mind I was going to get 2. One was going to be my OS drive the other my "Game" drive.

The bench marks showed that the Samsung came out better as an OS/Video Editing drive and the WD worked better as a game drive (lower load times etc), otherwise I probably would have just got two of the Samsung's.

I am still nursing my 1080Ti! I generally play older games such as DRG/ Witcher 3 at 3440x1440 - it still handles most games but it is starting to show its age. I have started to play GTFO recently and my rig cant handle it well had to turn settings down :(. I am also in a similar boat i have not built a PC in years and just about everything has changed - I have spent WAY too much time looking into RGB Fans

The O11 EVO looks amazing, i love the dual chamber design and it looks perfect to showcase your PC - only downside is that filling it with fans the fans cost more than the case

I've literally just yesterday started replaying The Witcher 3 with all the RTX goodness switched on as I looked on Steam and the last time I played it was Jan 2020 before I got my 3080 in Sept 2020 (plus I've never actually played Blood & Wine so good an excuse as any)

....and yeah the fans are a lot of extra expense, originally I was gonna go full blackout and get the black Noctua's but I thought to hell with it, not point doing that in a case like this, full RGB and the Lian Li's make it real easy with them clipping together these days, but yeah it does add a lot of expense, but hey I only do it once every 5-8 years so might as well do it right!

Lovely build. Bit biased though. I've got a 011d evo/b650e-e/7800x3d with 9 sl inf fans. I don't regre the extra expense of fans, seeing as sits on the desk and you look at it all the time. That and the ease of installing with the daisychaining and 1 cable etc..... Downside of course is there were no reverse blade fans when i bought so I have 6 showing their 'backside' to me and the case has the bar front right(if lookinbg at it side on through main glass side) which really gets in the way of the 'open case' design. that new design def an improvement. Starts giving me all sorts of bad ideas about swapping it for something new and shiny I can waste my money on ...gpu 1st though

Nice build but oh my that is a lot of fans. Even with a fan curve that must be noisy?

At idle and just around the net then it's near silent with the fan curve. At full load when gaming then sure the fans pick up, but can't hear them over the sound of the game, so there's no point where the fan noise is a bother.

great build after 8 years of no upgrades did you notice a big performance increase?

In terms of gaming, a little bit (but I wasn't really expecting a big upgrade there until I upgrade the GPU) but my 1% lows are definitely higher.

In terms of general performance absolutely, the PC was starting to drag on the small tasks, even opening file explorer would take a few seconds and it's back to being instant again etc.
