basically Its had a fire, probably arson.
this was a fairly painless restoration project which took about 2 weeks.

here is the car, I have to protect its identity because its not registered yet
ill post the afters very soon and the parts as they come in.

if the worst comes to the worst and i have to start repainting panels, does anyone know where I can get new panels?
I may attempt the b6 to b7 conversion but where do you get panels from?

thanks :)

nice motor. be interesting to see how much it costs to repair (excluding your own time). ive always thought that the prices of these written off vehicles are basically the proper value minus the cost of repairs; so whats the point kinda thing, and your still left with a HPI write off you need to explain.

How much is one of those worth when it's in a full working condition? I guess it won't be much more than the cost of purchase and repair to you, plus the registered Cat-C / D when you try and sell it.

For a 2005 1.8T? Depends on the miles, but for a non cat c/d i'd say around the 5.5 - 6.5k area.

Nice car, looks easy enough to fix, you can ditch most of the fire damaged PCV system, which will save you quite a bit of cash.

Hard to judge from the photos, but going on my own spendings, i'd say around £300 will sort everything in the enginebay.

Isn't finding out the price of panels something you do before buying a fire damaged writeoff from auction?

got it home, put the battery on it starts and runs fine.

as for the panels they are all ok apart from the bonnet will need repainting. and a new grill has been purchased and a new slam panel.

a new dents, but I know someone local who can pull them out.

I enquired about the panels because I just thought it would be nice since i have to take the front off to turn it into the b7 shape

the only mechanical thing ive replaced is the servo pipe for the brakes, cleaned the manifold and the expansion tank with a tooth brush back to new condition. its starting to take shape.

the bill so far:

Slam panel £90
front grill £60
scrap yard for a few bits of plastic that burnt away £40
servo pipe (free)
new tyres Michelin sport 225/40/18s £140 a tyre
and about a week so far of cleaning 4 hours a day.

The bonnet damage would concern me, has it definitely not warped due to the heat?

a replacement wouldn't be particularly expensive and you need it painting anyway

Will be interesting to see what else you run into, you really need a Vag-com dongle, cheap ebay job will do you.

Looks like the Evap check valve, some pipework, MAF connector, are toast?

Lucky that your coil wiring hasn't gone, though the harness isn't that much, id prob replace the coils since they like failing, £18 each from Audi.

For the cost i'd replace the coolant header tank, i've just changed mine for around £25, the do fail, and the extra heat won't have done yours any favours.

I'd also think about putting the cars front into service mode, removing the airbox and having a good poke around the turbo coolant feed line, in addition take the front cover off the engine and inspect the cambelt.
