Ok so it's not a case mod, but it uses case components, in this case, a cold cathode light set by akasa. I've been wanting to add a nice glowy light to the back of my monitor ever since i got an LCD, and last week I finally got around to thinking up a design. Here are the pics!

Here i filed a circular opening in a spare PCI plate to let a power cable poke out the back

Made a bracket assembly for the cathode, transformer and wires that will velcro to the monitor

Just a quick mock up

Extended, braided and removed passthrough molex on the power cable

A bit of spare perspex, a dremel to cut out the design and hole for the switch, heatgun to bend the corner for the switch, a servo arm and some self tappers to hold all the wires together :p

That look cool.

Sorry if I steal your idea but that looks pretty sweet. I like Logic Zero. :)

Looks very Nice....

I was thinking of doing this with my plasma a few month ago.(But i just never got around to doing it)

Can you buy cathodes which can change colour by a switch or something ???

Im thinking of doing the same idea with blue cathodes but i wasnt to sure if the wires would be to short - how did youe extend them?

I'd like to see that too.

I could see my 2407 with a white cathode out the back.

Yeh the wires are definately too short, i just found some old cable in the back shed, opened it up to get the 2 wires inside it. I cut the two wires from the molex on the cathodes and soldered the extra wires from the cable between them to extend it all. Then i just braided it to make it look fancy :p

may i ask how come you used green when you have blue everything else? hehe :D

great mod good job.

id not like to do that my self tho personally as its coming summer...
it will attract more bugs to the monitor and more risk of monitor death :(

All sounds abit complicated :D

Edit

After looking again i see what you mean :)

so youi extended the wires of the light...or the wires from you PSU. I allready tried this with a cathode tube...and I extended the wires on the cathode by just over a meter. When I plugged it in, there was hardly any light from the cathode...i thought that the extended length of wire was resisting the voltage to the cathode and it just wasnt getting enough power. Let me know...Im gona try again. When I think about it...i probably used the wrong type of wire anyway...it was all i had at the time.

Don't extend the wires from the voltage converter (the black box :p) to the cathode. Extend the wires from the psu to the voltage convert. :)
