Basicly I have had my Honda XR 125 since October and love ridding it (even in snow). So basicly after an oil change, I havn't really bothered.

I had a look after work and found the following wrong :(.

1) Chain rusty and slacking to much and can not be adjusted by pulling rear wheel as its pulled back to the max.

2)Spring missing from back break to set off break light.

3) Horn does not work due too one of the wires snapped.

4) Number plate light not working

5) Break Fluid nearly empty

So I will order a Chain/Sprocket kit off e-bay for around £50 tonight/tomorrow. and try and change the sprockets myself and chain myself. Any tips welcome

I can't locate a new spring for the break light not sure what they are called :( so done a quick fix with some wire at the moment.

Not sure if I will need a new wire for the horn or if I can connect the old one back.

Order new bulb and hope it's that

Buy some dot4 fluid and mess up bleading my front break :).

Any idea how I can prob my bike as I don't have a Bike jack? any tips will be appriciated

That list is nowt but general maintenance, In the future do the issues as they crop up & don't let them build up.
As for propping the bike up just use crates or summit.

YEah I think I was just excited abour ridding and not caring much.

I have never really taken a Motorbike appart so I will have a lot of fun and messing up. I got the basic Owners Manual but it don't explain Sprocket changing, I guess it just simple and self explanity.

Also I heard to get more torque. I should get a front spocket with less teeth?

Sprocket tweaking is the start of All Evils. :D
Less teeth on the back one will give you less take off but improve top end.
There's Untold you can do though & don't be scared as 1T's are meccano sets.

Back in the day I would have done the following;

Rip open the exhaust along the seem & remove All baffles then reweld along the seem. ;)
Strip the head barrel & piston out & replace with over sized & high compression head/piston/rings then I'd port it out myself for improved gasflow.
Up the jets in the carb or get a bigger carb maybe off a 175cc.

All this will make your bike Illegal though back in my day the Rozzers rode Horses so it wasn't a prob. :D

Just get a front with 2 less & a rear with 2 more, In my day we had loads of them & would swap them in & out for fun.
If you go to a decent bike shop they'll clue you up on the best combo of sprockets for what you want.

Cheers dude :) will update once I have time to change the sprocket. :( got no garage so will have to be done after work/ weekend.

Not this weekend as I am going to blackpool (not on the bike of course)

-2+2? :o. Well, suppose as it's only a 125cc :D.

re #5. Check your brake pads, as they may have work, hence the drop in fluid, just in case. Check for leaks too, just in case. Probably not, and has just dropped without you realising. Looking back at my first bike, I did sod all preventative maintenance early on in ownership of it.

Ok 15 tooth front srocket, normal back sprocket and new EK Chain ordered.

Anyone know where I could find a spring to make my back breaklight work again? I don't know what they are called? Nor can I find it.

I can only find the back break springs

Ring up a dealership/motorbike garage and ask.

As for the jobs, I am afraid this part of riding, some love, some hate. I love it...

Those wet weekends where you would normally watch tripe on the telly wasting your life away. You should be spending checking everything on your bike, regreasing stuff, re applying copper compound where needed... just a general mini service. Will make your bike last 10 times longer and run 100 times smoother :)

Like others have said, should have really been keeping an eye on that chain! If that snaps at 30mph, you will know about it and in a bad way chap.

You notice one spot of surface rust, give it a clean, with proper chain cleaning fluids, reapply chain lube and give it a good 10 miles of running to get all the o rings nice and greased, reapplying the lube once you get back.

Problem is I don't have a garage :( so the rainy days are left to be rainy days and my bike sits outside upset under the cover. :) well hopefully I will be lucky and the chain will not snap any time before I receive my new chain :) in the next few days hopefully. :)

I had an XR125 - I found that I didn't really need to do anything to it once I "fixed" the exhaust.

It does need a little up-jetting once you de-baffle the exhaust, and remove the snorkel from the airbox (don't drill holes in it :o)

What do you want to change the sprockets for anyway? It should just hit the limiter in top gear as it is?

Oh - My chain rusted away and was stretched beyond belief as well - Going around a nice left hand bend and the chain will just fall off - take it easy.

Hmpf I read and took in what you said, but say in a way that dom without hardly bike knowldge would know about :D.

I want a bit more umpf when I accelarate maybe even enough to lift the front wheel

In my experience, not even a 600 with 2 teeth knocked off the front will power-wheelie.

If you put enough teeth on the rear wheel it might be able to do it with a little clutch work, but still not enough to do it accelerating.

Well anyway, it's your bike - just know that going up isn't going forward ;)

I've always wanted to bolt one of those crappy electric car turbos on to a 125 4t - would be interesting to see if it worked (I accept no responsibility if you fry your electrics or engine) :D

update:)

Changed both sprockets and the bike on "brikes" at the moment :) will show you lot my ghetto way to keep the bike up. put the wheel back on but now need a tool to remove chain links as the chain is to long :)
