I have a 4 year old WD My Book World Edition II (blue rings) which did have 2 x 1TB disks in RAID 1, one of which failed. Disk prices are stupid at the moment so am thinking of using the non-failed 1TB disk as a local disk in my PC, then adding 2 x 500GB sata disks I have spare in RAID 0.
Problem is, does anyone know how I re-install the WD NAS software? From what I can make out, it looks as if it needs to go back to WD? I thought I could just stick the disks in, switch it on and it would configure, haven't tried it yet but it doesn't look that straight forward.
Anyone have any experience with this. Seems a shame to throw away a perfectly good NAS case with 1GB network connection. Maybe I could use other software on it?
