My Boot SSD in 'Safely Remove Hardware'

This is probably a pretty stupid question with a very simple solution but i need to ask.

Basically i have only 1 drive, my 256GB SSD. Today i was trying a few things and must have changed something because now it pops up in the tray as a device that can be removed. I know it can't be removed as it can't be stopped, since 7 is running off it but can i get rid of it? It is a little untidy thats all.

It's a feature of AHCI. All connected drives are seen as hot-swappable. It's annoying but perfectly normal.

The OS drive shouldn't be in there surely at the very least, mine is not and neither are any of the other drives I hotswap in any of the 8 SATA ports. You don't need to "safely remove" any AHCI compliant drive, just plug in and remove once the business is done.

I assume the Op has not installed the Intel Chipset and/or the Rapid Storage Technology drivers.
 
isn't there an option in hardware properties (from right clicking the drive in my computer) that sets it to not 'safely remove' mode?
 
Nope, not if you're on AHCI with the Intel drivers/rapid storage software installed. No need to be because hotswap is exactly that, hot swapping. Those options shouldn't be there :)
 
I can vouch for what mrk has said. I had the same showing on my Ex4 G3 and just installed the Intel drivers and now all internal drives are not showing in safely remove.
 
It shouldn't really be in there at all if AHCI is set up and the correct software installed!

Mine showed up before I installed the driver and software, now it only shows USB devices which is what I expected.

both my internal drives show as removable. i have the intel chipset drivers installed but i can't install RST as it says my system doesn't meet the requirements. :/
 
Hmm what BIOS/Mobo is the SATA controller(s) that it uses? (MSI P67A G45 B3 here (Sandybridge).
 
Mine? Asus P6X58D-E mobo with latest bios, the Marvel controller isn't great, meaning I don't get the full speed potential from my Crucial M4.
 
Having hotswap = having AHCI = Having NCQ (which you want) so disabling hotswap features disables NCQ (which you don't want to do!).
