My build: i5 2500k on Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

Regardless of what they offer, as I have previously stated you have far more rights under the sales of goods act.

Yeah in hindsight I should have sent it to OcUK under the Sales of Goods Act but I wasn't aware the problem was caused by missing pins (it just wouldn't start up and I didn't check the pins) so I assumed OcUK wouldn't have a problem replacing it. When it was returned to me at cost I became reluctant to send it back to OcUK in case of another rejection and more cost, so took the hassle-free way out.

Crikey... Good thread - check your motherboards as soon as you open them, it seems! Still scary that you could have one arrive damaged and still face the prospect of being refused RMA. :/

Why on God's Earth someone thought it would be a good design idea to have the pins on the motherboard is still beyond me...

again i refer you to the ocuk rma guy I spoke to couple of days ago who called me a liar, according to him the pins can't arrive bent they can only be bent by dropping something in them or touching them. also according to him people only claim the pins came bent so they get their money back/get a replacement, again basically saying they lie about it.

don't know if I can be bothered to spend another £35 getting my extreme7 fixed(already cost me £245, £210 to buy then £35 to send to ocuk and have the rma rejected), thinking of just either cutting my losses or selling it on as faulty to try and make back some of the money.

I like OCuK, but their RMA guy who call you a liar needs firing. Calling a customer a liar without proof is libelous and then it's a violation of your statutory rights unless they can prove you damaged it.

Escalate the case to someone higher up, I'm sure they have someone slightly more clever further up the food chain who want to avoid a small claims court case. Or take it to a local news paper or something, when the media gets involved companies tend to relent.

I could look up the relevant case law if you need some more backing for your case.

Its pretty sad that you got a bully to push you into having to go to ASrock for bent pins.Someone should remind OCUK of the LAW and sale of goods act which states clearly that even without warranty, defects etc must be handled by the RETAILER and replacements offered.

Contact OCUK management link to these forums and keep to your right dude!

At the very least you should recieve a game or two which im pretty sure you will if you push this complaint, and for that reason i buy my motherboards and cpu's with insurance for about £15 incase i break it by mistake i get a new one no quibbles!

I had the very same issue, and was told by the tech that unless I videod myself opening it I couldn't prove the damage wasn't caused by myself. Who was the rude person you spoke to? I always found James helpful, and the other guy to be a complete ass. Even Hung up on me which really ground my gears.

I didn't get his name but I think he was the guy I spoke to when I originally called to get the rma, the next couple of times I called got another guy(after I had got the rma I called back couple of days later to change it to replacement and again to check if it had be changesd as was still showing as refund in the rma tracking in 'my account').

I had a motherboard that arrived damaged (Capacitor wasn't completely connected to the board) I didn't notice the damage until after a month of receiving the board since I was buying parts in bits and pieces to get a good price on it. OcUK still honoured an RMA without issue, though I used the customer service forum which tends to be the better way about sorting things out, rather than calling.

Wow. Kind of shocked they send them out like this Asrock. I will be getting an Extreme 4 on Tuesday for a build I am doing someone. I'll check it straight away and update any threads I find where others have had issues just to give more backing so people might be able to get RMAs. Seems a bit unfair if this happens through no fault of the buyer. OCUK must get a load of people trying it on to be fair so it is a difficult one. At the same time, perhaps it would pay to side with the customer, especially loyal ones that have bought from OCUK before. I've spent thousands at OCUK and recommended them to many friends. One bad RMA like this and they would lose a lot of custom from me with all the builds I do people.

To avoid having this thread locked, can we please refrain from further conversation regarding OcUK and RMA's. Thanks to everyone for their advice :)

I've ordered an Extreme4 gen3 which should turn up Tuesday with the other parts, I will video myself unboxing everything I think to cover myself lol.

Also I will update on the status of the mobo once I get it out of its box, I'm actually a bit worried now after reading a few threads stating of issues with these boards.

I will go over the mobo with a fine tooth comb and take pics of anything that's not as it should be

My replacement board from ASRock has been running absolutely fine, no issues at all :)

Tidied up the cables today, here are some current pics:

Yet to do:
  1. Replace Gainward GTX 570 "Golden Sample" with MSI GTX 570 Twin Frozr III
  2. Find a suitable fan controller for the 3 x Silverstone 180mm fans
  3. Replace PSU with NZXT Hale90 650w
  4. Add white pre-braided cable extensions

My bad, they came up really small so I've reuploaded them.

According to a few reviews I've watched/read the NZXT PSU seems pretty good. I'm going for aesthetics tbh, the current HX520w will go back into my old rig.

I need some advice. I have all 3 of my Silverstone FM181 case fans connected to 1 motherboard header using a (1 x female 3pin) to (3 x male 3pin) splitter (the bundle of red and black cables in image 3 above). The FM181's aren't PWM, instead they each come with an additional 2pin connector and a PCI bracket fan controller to control the speed: http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=222&area=usa

My problem is I don't want to fit 3 PCI brackets to control 3 fans, I would rather 1 knob to control all 3 fans. The BitFenix Hydra is designed to control upto 9 fans and accepts 2pin cables, however it's designed to adjust fan LED power not speed, but I'm wondering if it would still control the speed of the FM181's if I plugged the 2pin connectors into it? http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/accessories/hydra (complete electronics noob here)

legally ocuk have to replace it. simple as that. id take it up with trading standards. if you used a credit card just get them to deal with it. as for the £21 bill, burn it?

ok so I've finally decided to contact asrock and got the reply word for word the same asking for the serial number and covering cost to/from them, now on the subject of the serial number is it just on the label on the box or on the motherboard as well(I looked on the mb but couldn't find it and don't want to blow £30-£40 on them rejecting due to incorrect serial number)?

oh and the £15 to cover the return, how did they want that paid?

oh and incase you haven't noticed pc&cooling have released some white modular psu, those are ment to be made by seasonic. not sure about the oem of the nzxt.
