Any gaming? CS5/PS9 as a hobby or professionally? Total budget? Why Win7 Ultimate over Home Premium? Any other peripherals like keyboard/mouse?

Total budget £1,200 nice to get some change for the wife to keep her happy :D:D
Some gaming not much , CS5/PS9 Hobby at moment.No keyboard or Mouse
Much difference between Win Ultimate & Premium :confused:

Have a look here to see what features of Win7 Ultimate you may actually use. Would have thought Home Premium would be fine.

Something along the lines of this would be fantastic. Maybe consider 8GB Dual Channel RAM as prices are dirt cheap at the moment. Large 2TB drive for storage for photoshop/etc and small SSD for Windows and key applications.

Good bang-for-buck graphics card at that price and will be fine for gaming at high detail at 1920*1080 resolution for 90% of current games. Or look at a 5770/5830 for slightly less (£90-100).

Motherboard will allow you to Crossfire if you go down the ATI route and add in a second 5770 (which are pretty cheap at the moment particularly second hand ones).

Regarding budget, think you should be able to get a very good system for less than £1000 (and treat the wife with the rest).

To improve on the system consider;
  • Larger SSD
  • 8GB RAM
