old comp is epically slow and i'm using it till I get my Shuttle back from being fixed it's a pentium 4 ht @ 2.8Ghz and 512mb of RAM. Is there any sort of program that can clean my comp i've tried clearing and uninstalling all the programs I don't use and got my processes down to 43. It's that bad I decided to time opening Mozilla Firefox and it took 2 mins 23 secs. Is there anything I can do without spending any money on it?

As Katoom says you're best bet is backing all your stuff up first.

Boot into safe mode - it'll probably make it a bit easier (and quicker) to grab all your stuff. I tend to use a large USB hardrive.

Your machine should be quite capable of running at a decent speed with a 2.8P4. Forget about reinstalling the OS - stick more memory into it first. If you are running XP take it up to 1GB and you will see a huge difference and if its Vista then take it up to 2GB. I have two old P4 machines still going pretty strong with 1GB memory.

you don't need more than 512MB on XP if you are just browsing the net etc. I had to use one similar to your spec while abroad this year and it was very snappy, surprisingly so in fact. Don't try and run a game or do anything heavy though :D
