try going into Start - Run - MSConfig

anything dodgy thats in the run section?

also any dodgy processes running in the background?
 
smitfraud always works for that kind of thing at work. It's always the last tool i run (which finally nails the bugger) and it should be the first because it works very well (remember to use safemode).

It seemed to have worked!
i just hope its gone now :D

but I agree with the poster about formatting is really the BEST way to eliminate it for sure.
