Hi all,

When playing WoW I notice that I end up getting a message in the background saying that my PC is slow and that Windows 7 can increase performance my putting on the basic settings? Big box allowing changes to the aero etc.

But ive got an AMD Phenom X4 B55 overclocked to 3.891ghz unlocked cores, 8GB DDR3 ram and an AMD HD Radeon 6870 1gb overclocked as well.

All I have running is avast anti virus, catalyst, Asus Suite II sometimes Skype as well and maybe Messenger.

Now surely with 8gb of ram and 4 cores running at those speeds why would it say my PC is slow?? Its kinda bothering me and am totally confused :-(

have you checked what you having running on startup ?

If you haven't already I would do this. (click the start button and type msconfig click the startup tab and make sure the only things starting up are the things that you want there)

Do you feel the PC is struggling with it? You can always download an addon for WoW to shows you the FPS you are getting.

Ok am not familiar with this area however I noticed one thing when I click on BOOT then advanced options it comes up with number of processors and in grey says one if i click on the check box i can select up to 4. Does this mean I can use all four cores to boot up the pc quicker or should i leave this area alone?

a lot of people have had this silly message coming up for no reason whatsoever. You don't need to change anything at all. You can set aero to disable the set themes when you run a fullscreen application and that'll stop it from giving you the annoying popup message.

Also : Lol @ Windows trying to make money. That made sense....

It will automatically use all available cores. I think this is for disabling certain cores for things like trouble shooting purposes . . . you don't need to change it anyway :)

Ok thanks I have just now even set up my usb stick to do readyboost and guess what...Makes NO difference at all *sigh*

I will get another 8gb of ram soon since its only around £50 on overclockers :-)

Do you find your system overly slow? or are you just worried about that message?

Another 8GB won't give you any visible improvement in performance. I only went 16GB because it was a new build last week and it was cheap :)

i cant see anything to show that my pc slows down however for the first time the other day when playing wow my fps went down to 17fps! i was shocked! i checked the temp on the gpu and everything was fine so i exited the game and went back and it was ok very weird.

have you the latest driver for your gpu?
also download CCleaner, and give it a run, while its open, click on tools and then startup.
just disable everything except antivirus, and anything that windows run, eg. sidebar.
then try defragmenting your harddrive.
also while not gaming, open task manager, and keep the process tab open, have a look in the centre column under cpu, is there anything using a lot of cpu power?
