My computer refuses to boot up... =(

You have established your HD probably has some bad sectors. Trying to boot another computer which contains different hardware with the faulty drive is not going to work. Put the original Hd in the working machine and put your faulty drive in as a secondary device then boot into windows and run Scandisk on your faulty HD.

As for your other problem you will need to plug a speaker (if one is not built in) in to the motherboard and have the manual for your motherboard to hand. With this in place try booting the system with the minimum hardware as outlined above. The motherboard will bleep to indicate the problem. look this up in the manual.

Sorry if it has been suggested, but check all of your circuitboard for anything that could short it. Also, unplug all the USB headers on the motherboard. One of the ones at my school had that trouble- someone had jammed something metal in the USB slot causing it to short out. Then the motherboard turns the computer off automatically to protect itself. Although it normally restarts.

Try unplugging everything from the PSU except for a fan to see if the PSU is at fault. If it is not the PSU, I would say the most likely culprit is the mobo.

So, i bought a cable that can connect my faulty hard drive externally to my laptop. I ran a scan on the hard drive by right clicking it in My Computer, selecting properties and doing the scan now feature. I also selected it to fix bad sectors. It ran the scan, ended, and the problem still occurs.

So, anyway to fix a faulty hard drive?

I can open the hard drive when it is connected to the computer and i can see everything, but i still need this hard drive to work, so would love a way to fix it.

I have finally got all the answers, which is rather nice, and this topic shows my evolution with my computer, and how i changed many things, until the last one was the broken part.

Anyway, the HDD was broken. In the end i took everything off it by externally connecting it to my laptop, then i wiped it.

And the thing stopping my computer from posting? The CPU. I put the processor in an old motherboard, and it would not post. I put the old processor in the old motherboard, and it worked fine. So, now i need to shop for a new processor!
