My computer refuses to boot up... =(

So, i bought a cable that can connect my faulty hard drive externally to my laptop. I ran a scan on the hard drive by right clicking it in My Computer, selecting properties and doing the scan now feature. I also selected it to fix bad sectors. It ran the scan, ended, and the problem still occurs.

So, anyway to fix a faulty hard drive?

I can open the hard drive when it is connected to the computer and i can see everything, but i still need this hard drive to work, so would love a way to fix it.

I have finally got all the answers, which is rather nice, and this topic shows my evolution with my computer, and how i changed many things, until the last one was the broken part.

Anyway, the HDD was broken. In the end i took everything off it by externally connecting it to my laptop, then i wiped it.

And the thing stopping my computer from posting? The CPU. I put the processor in an old motherboard, and it would not post. I put the old processor in the old motherboard, and it worked fine. So, now i need to shop for a new processor!
