My computer won't boot most of the time

Ok you are some how a Jynx.

My computer has run smooth for over a year and this week after replying to you my computer wouldn't start...then it would...then it wouldn't

It was my PSU! dead! Tagan
 
Might be worth reseating the mobo to rule out any sporadic shorting or loose connections (best thing would be to run it outside the case on a cardboard box or similar for testing purposes). I know it's a right faff, but by the sounds of it your PC is sometimes dead for hours so I don't think you have much to lose by doing so.
