So, this is my PC:

And i upgraded it with these two parts:

After a rather tight fit, i connected everything up, adding 3 extra cables to the PSU. One was a 4 pin, that goes to my DVD drive, the other was a SATA that goes to the front of the computer where you turn it on, and the last was a cable that is a 6 pin that goes to my new GPU, as the thing that connects in the main bunch of cables was an 8 pin.

After turning it on the first time, everything was fine, the computer turned on, the new GPU installed, but then after trying to do multiple computer searches and installations at the same time, it froze. So,i held down the power button for 10 seconds and it turned off. When i go to turn it back on, it doesn't. I open up the back, fiddle with the connections, and then put everything back. The power now turns on, i start in safe mode, see everything is fine, turn it off again.

Again, it wont turn on. I do the same thing, and finally it stars normally. I turn it off again to try and fix anything for the last time, and this time, no matter what, it wont re-start. I have unplugged the PSU, waited, turned off the mains plug and kept trying, and nothing.

So, is there anything i can do to get my computer back up and running again, other than taking out all the new stuff and putting back the old stuff? I don't want to do this, but i may be forced to. Any stupid mistakes i may have made during installation that may have done this.

Lastly, while the computer was on, it was getting rather hot, and was slower than usual. Also, since i can't turn it on, i can't check if it's something to do with the software, although i highly doubt it.

try your old graphics card in the system with the new pc, make sure the new psu is working correctly, if it still happens its not the new graphics card and we can move on.

Were you using the onboard GPU, you might need to disable this in the BIOS and did you remove the old drivers.

If you can get the pc to boot, look in add remove programmes in control panel, should have Nvidia drivers.
Edit: Vista this would be Programs and features. (control panel)

pop the old psu into the system, boot up (iff all if fine)

start - control panel - add/remove programms - something like nvidia display adapter and uninstall that

pop the new card in, boot up and install the drivers for that, which came with it on the disk

I have the drivers installed, as i already managed to start it up fine. It just wont now. And i can't use the card with the old PSU, as the old PSU is only 200w.

whats the sata from the psu to the power switch?

What do you mean? It is just a cable going from the power supply into the top part of a silver box where the power switch is. This silver box then has a red cable going from the silver box to the mother board.

Sorry for not being too technical, i don't accurately know what some of these parts are.

Also, the sata going from the poewr supply to the switch is very tight to fit, as i have to turn it upside down, and the crushes some of the cables up against the case.

What happens if you remove the new GPU, go back to onboard, keep the new PSU installed and do a CMOS reset.

Right, well, i tried the old PSU, booted instantly. It's strange, sonce i know the new PSU works, it flashes red when i plug it in. One of the cables must be dodgy.
