My CPU gets so hot?! :(

your temps should not exceed 50c to 55c on a hot day playing bfbc2.

My i5 2500k is running at stock frequency with stock cooler, and I get up to 60c while gaming. Should I be concerned about that temp?

think 75*C is bad, playing Starcraft II the temperature of my 4870X2 frequently reaches 106*C! so hot it is actually changing the colour of the wall-paper behind my computer! :D

This is normal for the cooler. It's intended to be a cooler quieter replacement to the stock intel cooler - at stock speeds.

Not suitable for overclocking. I don't like mucking about with coolers once they're fitted, I'd downclock it.

Really not an accurate statement at all. Just look at the cooler....

*edit* oh, thought you were talking about the Hyper 212+, not the AF7

i have same cooler and get those temps priming @ 4.4GHz, dont go over the low 60s when gaming. but no, the freezer 7 aint a great cooler for the 2500k, deffinatly look at investing in a better one.

I would first of all re-check that heatsink is on tight and ample (meaning not too much, not too little) thermal grease is applied evenly.

If not go for a proper cooler by first checking it fits with your case, motherboard and RAM combo. I would go for a Noctua NH-D14 but each to his/her own.

ok i hope this will answer some questions for those who have high temps, here is my i5 2500k cpu usage & temps playing bfbc2:

ROOM TEMP 27c

cpu @ 4.5hz usage is 65% (bfbc2 @ 1920x1080)
cpu voltage: 1.284v

temps:
cpu: 45c
core 1: 55c
core 2: 58c
core 3: 54c
core 4: 57c

Get rid of the feezer 7 pro they are rubbish at cooling, let alone overclocking and trying to cool. I had one for fun and it ran hotter than stock cooler at stock speeds. Its where it belongs now gathering dust ;)

I disagree. The freezer 7 pro should be ample for the OPs moderate OC but I would certainly suggest reseating the HSF, making sure you apply just a thin application TIM. Make sure you have adequate case airflow too where cool air can come in and warm air is exhausted, front and back respectively.

The Gelid is an alternative.

Anymore on that OC , then I'd be looking at the Silver Arrow or the H50

So many decent coolers to choose from nowdays :)

my temps get in the high 50's when playing games or running a intensive program - clocked at 4.5ghz - 2500k

Those temps are highish but not too bad depends on the case layout as well as my temps were high 60's until i sorted out case design and layout fans etc and vents.

What do you mean by TIM? (Sorry, n00b here). The heatsink had thermal paste pre applied to the part which locks down onto the CPU. So I literally just stuck it on and clamped it in.

Also, I have a problem. A major dilemma potentially preventing me from getting a better/bigger heatsink.

This is my motherboard.

The RAM only just fits in underneath the fan on my Arctic heatsink, so getting an even bigger one will surely prevent me from having 2 stick of RAM in?

some/most bigger more expensive heatsinks are higher from the motherboard to allow this i believe. mine wont fit now i have turned it around with ram being in slot 1, but the more expensive silver arrow will.
my freezer 7 will also hit temps of 80c + on hot days when prime testing. its not really a great cooler for the 2500k chips from my experience.
which way do you have it mounted?

i found there was a bout a 3c decrease the second way

That's fine, as i said the Freezer is a decent cooler for the OC you have.. I was merely posting ideas for more aggressive OCs.

It might be worth removing and re-applying the Thermal Instrument Material (TIM) on the HSF..

Give this a read: http://www.huddysworld.co.uk/index....g-tim&catid=40:techie-talk-hardware&Itemid=72

Also, do you have two cases fans as described in my previous post?

Heh, nice website ^^

Yeah I have one at the front which sucks in, one on top blowing out. An exhaust one (Which doesn't seem too good) aaaaand I bluetacked one to the bottom of my case, as I've got no free vents for a smaller size fan, it's a pretty good DIY job if you ask me...

The second way, I've noticed my RAM closest to the CPU gets **** hot after a while.

maybe try rotating it, you might find your case airflow prefers it. i think the freezer 7 is good for older cpus but i think it really struggles to be anything more than a slightly better than stock cooler cooler with the newer cpus.
i am currently waiting for the funds for a silver arrow as i just cant find a way to oc whilst maintaining reasonable temps with the freezer 7.

Exactly my problem, I'll pick up a new cooler towards the end of the month. Also, I don't know if anyone has this problem. But when I'm playing BC2, it doesn't execute multi-threading properly. Sticks the 4th core on 100%, which is quite to my distaste, to stop it from doing this I have to set the priority in the processes manager (CTRL + ALT + ESC) to high, turn the fourth core off in the affinity set up, ok everything, go back onto the processes manager, turn all the cores back on in the affinity set up, thus equaling out all the cores again. Proper weird, and annoying as hell considering I have to do this every time I boot it up. Last time I forgot and my PC got BSOD for the first time ever.
