I have decided its time for a new system as my is dated. I am good g with amd and will looking at ryzen 1700/1700x but a friend said why not get a quad core ryzen as there me t to be killer? The ones with hyper threads

My mine use is a general home pc. But on a week end I like to game at 1440, games like battlefield and fifa

When would be the cup for me. I want the build to last a long time 3year+ would be nice.

Any of these cups will do, and they do a brilliant job ;): https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lifestyle-and-gadgets/ocuk-merchandise/mugs

As for CPUs, what's your overall budget? All Ryzen 5+ CPUs have SMT (Intel calling it HT). The quad cores will have 8 threads and works pretty well, but the 6 cores/12 threads aren't that expensive either. You could go for that and then used the money saved for a stronger GPU which will matter more on that resolution.

EDIT: Corrected

The new i5-8600K could be a good choice for you. If you only game I doubt you need an 8/16 cpu with lower single core performance. Depends on your budget though.

This is not true. Ryzen 3 has no HT/SMT whatsoever.
Only Ryzen 5 4c have 8t. The ryzen 3 is 4c4t.

I like a nice C-cup, not too big, not to small. If you are going to do motorboating then the bigger the better

I once encountered some quite stunning F cups. Much motorboating ensued. The woman they were attached to was kind of weird though so it was a 1 time deal.

My budget is good up to the 1700x but if of of the 4c8t cpu's will do the job I word be happy to get that.

I wouldn't get just a 4c4t amd cpu.

The 7700K is sub 300 the almost identical 6700K is 250. Those are the fastest quad cores i7. But the motherboard is a dead end.

You could probably throw in the X299 quad core i7 too, but the boards are pricey and you need to carefully over clock them and seem to need a chip from a good batch.

Coffee lake will probably offer the fastest 6 cores chips. Prices are unknown and the board is also a dead end but Coffee lake could be a really good CPU if the main task is gaming.

The 1700 is 250 and the 1700X is 280. The're 8 core 16 thread chip for the price of a quad. You take a hit on performance per core but AM4 is the better platform. AMD have Ryzen + coming in February and Ryzen 2 is suppose to be coming in late 2018. AM4 is meant to support chips until 2020.

What do you currently have?

I had a 4770k but ever the board or cpu is dead.

I think at this time I would like to give amd a go. Getting the best of the best for me is not really that important I just want a good system that gets the job done

Could go for a 1600 now and then replace with one of the newer ones at a later date, if you want the extra performance. If your in no rush then wait for Zen+ in February, which will be 12nm and a slight advantage over the 14nm cpu's currently on offer.
