My CPU Needs?

Might be worth holding off on the cup and wait for the mug that comes out next year. It's bigger and better :D

About 11hrs too late but al fake a giggle to make you feel good.
Also the mugs are on sale now.

I haven't used the 4c 8t Ryzen chips, but the 8 cores are beasts for the price.

I have no plans to upgrade for a long time so I will go with the 1700/1700x

1700 would be the best bet, also comes with a free cooler and most can do 3.9/4 if ya add some voltage.
In that sense 1700x is sort of a pointless chip, yes some % higher than 1700 could probably hit 4ghz but is it worth it ? Dont think so, same goes for the 1800x

The 1700 and 1700X are very close in price right now so the 1700X makes a little better argument than it did. I suppose it depends if you want add better cooling and push the memory along with clock speed.

Brilliant if you could let me know where you have been listed on sale that would be fantastic :D

On a serious note. If you like playing BF1 Ryzen 1600 would be ideal but if you have the extra cash go for the 1700. BF1 is very CPU intensive and loves cores..

I’d be tempted to see if there are any decent z87/z97 used boards available and pick one up to replace what you currently have. The 4770k is still more than capable and for the amount of money you’ll need to pay for a new CPU, mobo and RAM I would say it’s not really worth it. Did you have the CPU clocked at all? Since you’ve had it for a while now maybe you could delid it if you haven’t already and push the overclock a bit further? I’m still on a 3770k here, and while i’m seriously tempted, i’m going to hang onto it for a while longer. By the time extra cores are needed for gaming, the current line of CPU’s will be totally obsolete anyway. Looking at the number of CPU’s released recently, future proofing is even less of a thing than it used to be. Letting Intel and AMD fight things out for a while longer is likely to be worth it.

Yes, 1700X is £35 more than 1700 if you buy the cheapest rather than from a specific retailer (only one 1700X in stock as I speak though). Since it boosts to nearly the speed you'd get out of overclocking a 1700 anyway I guess that's a reasonable trade-off: £35 for less overclocking headache.

Not sure wich headache ur talking about, change multi, change voltage, the end.
Think it's stable, get a random crash 2 days later, try to work out if it's the RAM or the CPU voltage, think you've fixed it again.... etc.

I love overclocking but it's not child's play.

It can be child's play depending on how hard you push. And how well you chose your parts
