My Dad is going to get a medal

*blinks*

I'm seeing double..

Anyway congrats to your dad. I never heard of the Malaya campaign before this. My granddad would have gone through that entire area during ww2 though. He fought in africa right through to south east Asia and the POW camps there. He was in the Royal Signal Corps so basically driving around on a motorbike or jeep behind enemy lines for most of the time.

I think he also got to drive monty around a few times. Apparently he just commandeered the first jeep he saw and told him to drive him around :D

ahhh medals, the easiest way for a government to absolve itself of guilt/responsibility so they can get on with forgetting the individuals involved.

Tell him Thanks for serving Personally from Me :)
Hope he has a Great day, He deserves it

My Old man also served in the Malaya campaign, 22nd Cheshire Regt., although he's not heard anything about these medals though.

Congrats to your Dad though, perhaps mine will get the letter sometime later.

Mine got a phone call from a bloke in Stockport or something, dunno exactly how it all came about.

When did this Malaya campaign start/end?
The only one I can find is around 1941 and the years don't add up.
My Dad is 74 and he was too young for that.

It took ages for my grandad to get his medal for working inside the arctic circle in the 2nd world war iirc.

Good news this. Can't see why we haven't honoured soldiers who have served us in these almost forgotten episodes in our history.
Malaya was in fact a campaign and not perhaps an exotic holiday with unusually dangerous firework parties.
"Oooh sarge that's a pretty one. What do you reckon its called?" :p:D

Sounds like a cool job (pun not intended :)).

What did he do out there?

No idea tbh, will ask him next time i'm down. Hes got 5 or 6 service medals, that actic circle one stood out the most though.

One of his best stories of old days was delivering meat to 10 downing street many years ago. He hasnt spoken much about the wars though
