as title, got a dell 2005fpw and its dying a slow and painful death, basically get a lot of screen burn from websites and got dark 'veins' permanently on the screen (hard to describe but look like dirty water marks)

anyway need a new one but not sure whether to go 22" or 24", gfx is only a ati4850 but at 1680x1050 all my games run fine for my needs... l4d2, cs:s, tf2, Dragon age and the gtr series

I am prob going to get a 5850 around easter so what would you get?

budget is £150 ish but flexible altho cheaper the better. dvi or hdmi input as only use pc on it.

just noticed all the 'cheaper' models 22", 23" and 24" are out of stock and all the ones available in budget seem to be 1920x1080... will my mediocre gfx cope at this res?

thanks in advance

This is easy.

Get Dell ST2410 (24") if your budget is £150 because this is how much this monitor costs if you buy directly from Dell.

I just got this monitor today and its fantastic for the price.

The monitor on the right is 20" Samsung 206bw.

must say I do like the stand on my dell, I take it newer models are just as good.

cheers for the pic as its hard to compare size difference and was worried 24 might be just a bit too big :)

will my lowly 4850 cope at 1920x1080 tho lol

The Dell 2005FPW uses an S-IPS panel. So if you go for a TN panel monitor (like the one above) you will be taking a step down in quality. Don't get me wrong, the above Dell ST2410 is not a bad monitor - but when you are coming from an IPS screen you will be able to see the difference.

Unfortunately, you can't match the quality of your current monitor for £150. Although, If you are willing to go second hand/refurbished then you may well be able to.

Personally I would suggest the Dell 2209WA. It is over your budget - but the quality is what you are used to (uses an e-IPS panel) and 2 inches bigger. It is also a cracking monitor for games and the stand is fantastic.

nice one andi, didnt know it was s-ips (bought as a bundle with pc a while ago). is there really a massive difference between the 2 types? I only game/browse internet on pc so aslong as no ghosting on tn's I can tolerate a slight loss of crispness

budget isnt set in stone I mean I could go get a 5850 and a monitor today but always nice to save a few quid :)

too much bloody choice around these days!!! (not a bad thing lol)

I have a 4670 and it copes just fine at 1080 maxed out playing MW2.

No worries. Here is a review of the 2005FPW if you are interested, if you just got it in a bundle then you made one heck of a catch - it's a great monitor.

The price of monitors seems to have dropped steadily in the past few years, but in reality its just cheaper to make, lower quality TN panels being made in higher quantities. The high quality IPS and VA panels have dropped in price - but not by as much as you may expect.

That said £250 for the 2209WA is a very good deal, however it used to cost £200 a few months ago - supply and demand I guess.

that dell is tempting just been on their site and £159 delivered is good..... andi has me paranoid about moving to a tn from an ips now lol... argggggggggh

cheers for the advice chaps :)

having gone from ips to tn

the two tn panel tfts went back to shop within the hour and two new ips panels ordered dell 2209wa

so yes it really is different ball game

order ips

yeah I have been reading around for last hour or so and deffo gonna stick with ips

many thanks especially to andi as I almost bought the hanns g 24" at one point (damn me for being a tight northerner lol)

will be ordering the 2209wa in the next day or 2 :D
