My DIY Saturday - Laminate Floor Day

I'd probably start in that back right alcove if that was me. That way you work out towards the door!

You should be fine, just be methodical and mark the underside of your boards so you know what to cut and where they go. I'm just lucky the Mrs has a good attention to detail unlike me windmilling in!

Measure width of room & divide by 192mm width of board, will give you some starting point as to number of boards you need, you can then tweak your starting point, so you don't end up with slithers.
But, I definitely where I would start as well, ideally you want a full width board on fire breast wall, then work out the board for alcove, when laying have several packs on the go, & mix them as you go.

Not very good quality pics but you get the idea! They also had underlay at two for £40 but if you need an odd number they refund the price of one which was good.

Thanks guys, really helpful. And looking nice Mirmo. Despite the price I always think darker boards look much more expensive vs birch/pine coloured boards.

Yeah I agree. I actually laid that on top of pine coloured laminate lol, did look cheap. Never done anything like that before but watched a few videos and took it slow. Plus a carpenter friend helped me get started!

Hope it goes smooth for you guys.

Got the keys yesterday so started everything today. Ordered the floor and underlay from Wickes at 2pm yesterday and it arrived at 7.30am this morning!

Before - nasty office tiles

Just having lunch now before we get on with the floor. One thing we don't have yet either is the coving and something for the door join (carpet to wood).

the carpet looked just so old it was paper thin and it wasn't pleasant but the landlord had said he wouldn't replace it. The tool.
I don't think I've ever known a landlord to provide carpets.

I moved into a flat in January and just bought the same cheapish carpet in every room which cost £400 but better than bare floors.
I was tempted to laminate and the youtube video I watched made it look all to easy.
I figured it probably wasn't so just got carpets fitted lol.

Respect for having a go at it though! looks like you did a good job in your boys room

These tools are great for removing floor tiles. Lidl sometimes have them on offer for £30, with some blades, including a scraper blade. Good little tool to have to hand as they come in for all sorts.

They are also great for cutting the architraves on internal doors so that the laminate can go under it. Just flip a piece of laminate upside down and then use one of the wood blades to cut the architraves off.

Absolutely brilliant tool, I got a Bosch GOP 250CE , with the right blade, you can cut tiles, remove grout, cut pipes, sand, the list of jobs it can do is endless.

Everybody should have one of these multi tools.
And I use Saxton range of blades, very good blades, cheaper than some makes available.

Also Worx SoniCrafter multi tool use a different type blade mounting unique to Worx, Dremmel, Challenge Extreme, to use other blades you need to buy an adaptor.

Whereas Makita, Bosch or Fein Multimaster use a universal blade mounting which fit those makes.

Saxton blades seem really good for the price. The official Bosch or Fein blades are a complete rip off! £24 for a blade? Hopefully they will stop ripping people off now that there are loads of companies making these multi tools.

I got a full set of Saxton blades for £24 from Ebay and they are really good quality. Have done loads of little jobs with them and they have lasted well.

Their Saxton mixed blade sets are a bargain, also found they are lasting very well.

Was all fairly straightforward although protruding corners were a *****! Also managed to do it with 1 less pack of boards than we bought (just!) so will be taking those back. All-in-all a success :).

Inspired by your bloody awesome job, and I like the colour you used, I think I'm going to give our lounge a go. The full downstairs has this vile vinyl down at the moment that always looks dirty and just hate it. Yes, rented place yada yada, but I figure if I spend a couple of hundred on making it nicer, it saves the Mrs chirping on about moving house, which will cost me more than a few hundred!

This is the current, vile vinyl.

See what I mean?! So this coming weekend, I'm jumping in and ripping it all up. Aiming for a similar colour to Russinating I think. The biggest thing doing this will be moving everything out to lay it. I think I'm going to shift it all to one end of the room and then move it back etc. around it. *shrug*

If the weather is dry, better to stick all furniture outside, a lot easier than playing musical chairs.
And remove any interior doors will make the job easier.
I myself prefer the darker colour.

Good idea, that. Hopefully it's dry. We have 2 sets of French doors, so should be easy enough to get it out there.

We have guest over at the moment, but I'm aching to start tearing up the crap! I can't help it once I've set my mind on it lol
