Hey Guys,

I had opened up my PC case today and moved my DVD drive to another bay. But it shouldn't matter which bay it's in. I used the same cables. Now I just placed a DVD into the tray and it ejects and closes but I noticed in 'my computer' It does not show my dvd drive anymore, how can I fix this?

I opened my case back up and have reconnected the cables, but it's still not working. I tried a different cable and nothing happens. It doesn't come up in device manager or in my computer. Whats wrong? please help

many thanks in advance

Okay I pressed f8 on start up and got into the bios menu. It then said:

Primary Drive 0 Hard drive
Primary Drive 1 OFF
Secondary Drive 0 Unknown Device
Secondary Drive 1 Unknown Device

I only got a IDE DVD re-writer in the case and a IDE hard drive and floppy drive. Just the dvd re-writer does not detect in device manager not does it show up as an icon in my computer.

Have you checked for bent/damaged pins on the motherboard and drive IDE connectors? Check the drives power connector and jumper pins too. Are any jumpers missing? Make sure all the pins are soldered to the circuit board properly (I've got an optical drive that's missing its 12v pin because the solder gave way during some reorganising )

Try another cable too just in case the replacement is faulty. Always try to use known working components when fault finding :D

*cringe* at thread.

Some one who doesn't know what device manager is, shouldn't be moving things about in their PC. I think some one's working a bit backward here.

I know what device manager is but had forgotten where it was located but know now from a google search. Still anyways I have tried everything I can think of and the dvd drive doesn't show up in windows.

I think I've lost count for how many times I've heard some one blame their incompetence on how they did actually know where/what/how, but they had simply forgotten. :o
