My encounter with Airport security

I had a bag test positive ay Chicago airport a while back, theyw ere perfectly polite about it and after the tests of the inside of the bag were clear and a quick search was made we were on our way

The security bloke says some hand creams cause a false positive and it could have come from anyone that handled the bag

I had a bag swab show as explosives in Ireland, they searched everything twice, swabbed everything (down top swabbing the top of a USB pen, then also the body separately). I ended up missing my flight, they then sent be back to the desk to purchase a new seat.
They were quite abrupt at the swabbing stage, and not bothered when I missed my flight. I would have been more bothered if i was my money, but company credit card meant I was just delayed by a few hours really.
If you think that experience was bad, try flying to Israel :P

Yep. I can't think of the brand (Neutrogena I think), they have glycerin in the product which will set off the alarms :D

It seems strange that they would take all of your details and presumably put you on some sort of big brother register when ultimately you weren't carrying anything explosive, the "random check - positive for explosive material" routine is probably just a trick they use to interrogate anyone of their choosing.

What is your skin colour and faith as im guessing this is more to do with it?

Stansted security is horrendous, worth paying the £5 to skip to the front of the queue. I do it everytime I travel with work.

Why do normal, intelligent and rational people turn in to complete ***** when presented with the security process?

Probably the fear of doing/saying somthing wrong then questioning weather by not doing/saying somthing they seem suspicious. All ending up with a rubber glove :D

I must admit I get somewhat overly cautious when going through security.

does anyone actually know of somebody who has been butt raped by a finger in a rubber glove at airport security?

some oils, lotions and other things can also come up positive for explosives as well though. thats why i would rather see sniffer dogs then chemical tests as they never **** up. it is hard to keep security right these days. im a security guard and the abuse we get sometimes for doing our job is wild and im not even in an airport.

i always get patted down as well lol

When I was a wee lad of 21 on a lads holiday to Florida I was annoyed and tired in the airport awaiting to get out to enjoy my holiday.

The immigration officer kept asking the purpose of my visit and I said "I've just told you, its a lads holiday, I'm not a terrorist and have no intention to bomb your airport or country"

Queue lots of airport security and police with large guns giving me the dressing down of a life time in front of most of the flights passengers and others patrons.

People actually clapped when they had finished. I said sorry to everyone and thanked my lucky stars they didn't make me D'bohs next wife.

Lesson learned.

What lesson? That airport security staff are so desperate for some action they will accost an innocent holiday maker?

I have to say the op's story is quite concerning as it implies that the equipment they are using to prevent terrorist attacks is highly dodgy and liable to false results.
