My ESXi homelab

Hey Guys,
Hope you all are doing well. Wondering if someone can suggest/guide me in getting lab access for my Vsphere 6.7 ICM and later on for DCV. Ideally free access or really low budget. Thanks.

I'm not sure you can still sit the 2020 exams, or if the ICM course for 2020 qualifies you for the exam, best to check on the VMware certification page.

VMware's Hands On Labs are a great resource to get started.

Be interesting to know if they are, not for me personally - but the fact that they're still actively running ICM 6.7 and the likes by their main partners such as TechData is a bit odd if you aren't eligible for an exam/cert after it. VMware certs have always been a bit bonkers with their requirements though.

Hello,

I planned to take ICM 6.7 foundation exam and then Professional VMware vSphere 6.7 (2V0-21.19) which is retiring on June 30, 2021, to earn VCP DCV.

2V0-21.19 should have been retired on the 31st of December, but as above they have extended it for 6 months.

So there will be 2 types of VCP-DCV exam available for the first half for 2021, a 6.7 based exam and a 7.0 based exam.

I'm currently aiming to refresh my VCP 5 with the 7.0 exam in a few months, have just done the Scale & Optimize v7 course, however need to get some other vendor certs out of the way first for partnership status.

I've just refreshed my homelab hardware in preparation for it, but to echo Chris, if your looking for free labbing, no better place than the HOL's!

Hello Guys,

Thanks for that info. If I choose to setup homelab, can someone please advise hardware required and approximate cost to setup the whole thing. I have a 16G ram laptop, if that helps. I tried HOL, any idea on how to map the exam objectives to the HOL.

There are many ways you could set up a homelab environment, it depends how deep your pockets are and how much physical space you have. You could buy old server hardware, Intel NUCs or similar SFF based units, nested on a PC/Laptop running everything on VMware Workstation. There are plenty of posts/blogs/websites about how to build your own lab environment, here's a couple of links to get you started:

Regarding mapping the HOLs to exam objectives, this is a bit harder, but have a look at:
