Hey guys

Downloaded BF3 Beta today and have played it for about an hour

Its awesome! :)

However I wasn't expecting my frame rate to be so low!
I was playing it maxed out (inc max AA) at 1080P with my sig rig and noticed outside I was getting roughly 55-80FPS and roughly 75-130 inside which is ok, but after a few rounds I noticed what I think I've read other people refer to as "lag spikes".

This happened most prominently when entering or exiting a building or going up flights of stairs, I can only think that when I enter a new area of the map/level loads of new textures have to be swapped or perhaps saved to my system RAM or HDD causing lag spikes.

The lag spikes are evident when looking at the FPS counter, seeing it quickly drop from 60 to 40ish FPS and then quickly recover.

2GB+ Cards advisable for BF3 I think

Anyone else noticed similar FPS drops?

Am I missing something here? I'm running an I5-2500K @stock, 8GB DDR3, 6870 1gb @stock and I am running this at 60FPS with everything maxed out on Ultra.

What was with all this nonsense about needing two 580's?

Yet more evidence of people pushing BS around to justify their unecessary purchases.

The beta only has medium textures right?

I'm not "pushing BS" I wish I was getting more FPS and no lag spikes. Your HD6870 must be pretty special if it can match 2 x GTX570's OC'ed.

i personaly think the "lag spikes" are caused by people constantly spamming the JOIN button onto server causing it to lag and not perform as well.

This causes lower frame rates too.

I reckon this could be the case.

Unless the browsing system itself somehow caches the server info and takes the brunt of it (which I very much doubt) it must almost be like a denial of service attack if a lot of people are spamming the join button. Especially on the Caspian Border servers.

When you say 60fps do you mean average? What's the minimum/maximum?

Any input lag at all?

haha yeah right, people with GTX580's and HD6970's are not even getting them figures on 1080P on ultra so there is no way you are.

i disagree i was getting 50-70 frames outside and 60- 80 inside on a single 6950, with most settings on ultra, xfire gives me 70-90 fps outside and a little more inside but i think there are issues with dual card setups until beta is finished

I'm running 2x 6870s, and I get this same "stutter"

I first thought it was a temp issue (my temps were too high tho) but now I have resolved the temp issue, the stuttering remains.

When running with a single card it's fine, but enable crossfire and it plays fine for about 5-10 minutes but then starts stuttering, and gets worse and worse till it's more or less unplayable :/
