My first attempt

Hey all. My first post at OcUK. Been lurking for about a month trying to pick up a few things. I'm not that really hardware savy. I can take my comp apart clean it and put it back together.. That counts for something right?!

Anyway this is my first attempted build. I'm not going to try to pretend i know exactly what I'm doing but i thought I'd give it a go trying to follow my conditions.

I wanted:

750GB - 1TB+ storage space (I have a lot of live footage of gigs/concerts)
DDR3 RAM - I hear this is the future? my current comp has 512mb of DDR ram.
Graphics. I play a quake 3 based game called urban terror. it runs on the Q3 engine but has improved graphically. So I'd like something powerful enough to run that and maybe a few other games like Fifa 09.
Upgradable? - I've planned out my expenditures for the next few months and will hopefully have a budget of £500 - 600. but I'd like to maybe upgrade this machine in half a year or a year.
Monitor - I've never owned a flat screen. My current monitor keeps my room warm in winter. but I'd like something that I could plug my xbox360 into.
OS - i have an OS.

Anyway sorry to keep you. Here's my attempt:)

Asus VH222H 22" Widescreen True HD LCD Monitor (£145.99)
AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 710 2.6GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail (£109.24)
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4 AMD 790X (Socket AM2+) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard (£97.74)
**B Grade** Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (S (HD-197-SE) (£87.39)
**B Grade** Gigabyte ODIN GT 550W ATX2.2 Dual-SLi Compliant Modular PSU ( (CA-021-GI) (£57.49)
OCZ Platinum Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2P10664GK) (£57.49)
**B Grade** Coolermaster Elite 335 Case - Bl (CA-160-CM) (£31.04)

Total inc VAT = £604.20

Looks like i forgot to include a graphics card.. oops. Also the motherboard says DDR3 in the title but DDR2 in the description anyone know which it is? Feel free to tell me how bad i did and suggest something better!

Thanks

The manufacturer's website seems to think it's DDR2 only, so OcUK must have made a slip-up.

I take it you're scavenging CD/DVD drives from your current rig, or are you keeping it for something else?

Let me know what you think of that monitor, I've been pondering about buying it myself...

Cheers for the replies. yeah i have 3 DvD writers in my current rig. So shouldn't need one of them:D. i also have keyboard/mouse and speakers already:D

Do you think i should go for ddr2 or try to get in ddr3 ram if possible?

Id stick with DDR3 - hows this? thrown this togetehr for you, included a gfx card too ;)

You got a better case, PSU and HDD and nothings B-grade so you know its all good, I just stuck with the monitor you had selected.

Note a few of those are on This Week Only offers - gfx card, mobo and CPU

Edit: Oh and just to confirm that board Ive included is DDR3, theres a similarly named board GA-MA790X-UD4P which is DDR2, but as this one has the T in it its DDR3, link here for your peace of mind
