I was just buidling something similar a few minutes ago and I was able to squeeze the i7 940 in for less than £1900.

hm but would the 940 make much of a difference as i will be over clocking and iv heard good things about the 920.
could you please post your specs thanks you.

I am a complete rookie mate at this. I've been trying to build myself a pc for ages. This is what I came up with.

Hi You are probably know more in depth in this than me, so i I have missed anything out, please let me know.

No I won't, I use my PC for games from time to time. I am more of a power user and into video editing, heavy spreadsheet user, access large databases and webdesign. Sometimes I test games in beta mode. That's it and all that should be sufficient to browse the web too and play games online. I just like my PCs to be quick and hate to sit there and wait for it to drag on for ages.

You think I should overclock or just upgrade to an i7 extreme later on when the price comes down?

if you feel confident overclocking then you could save a bit of money and get a i7 920 and clock it way past 940 speeds.
thats what im planning on doing, hoping to get about 3.5-4ghz out of my 920 never built a system but i have overclocked my q6600 to 3.6ghz stable so hoping the 920 will go the same way.

the 940 most probably will clock higher but not by much and for the sake of saving around about £200 i think the 920 overclocked would be your best bet

For which built? The first one or second one?

the first one... that's a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a case.

in the second spec, are you sure that that cooler is compatible? it doesn't list socket 1366.

whats overkill about the case, it was the only case on overclockers that looked quite future proof for the i7s

true but to me it doesnt matter how much it costs aslong as it does a good job of cooling my system, could u please specify a case that would be better thank you and all help is appreciated.

Can't see the point of buying a 940 over a 920.

The big difference in price is silly when you can just clock the 920 so easily too and beyond 940 speed.

Trust me, you don't want that Thermaltake case. Budget watercooling sucks to high heaven.

Something like a Silverstone FT01 would be awesome.

Or a Silverstone TJ07 if you want to go for proper watercooling.

Personally, thats what I'd do. There's enough space (money) left to add a second GTX or you could just buy the 4870X2. I assume you need Vista & I don't see the point of a Blu-Ray rewriter.
