Yep, a while back I was having a look through an owners manual and it was stated in there. But let your engine warm fully before thrashing it that hard :D

After it was warmed, mine would be taken to the red marks every single time it was driven. It lasted for 3 years and was fine when I got rid (these aren't really good motors for a 3 hour drive on the motorway that I was having to do twice a week). Here is a picture of the lines on my car, its geared lower as its only a 1L.

That is a lot of miles but vw were still top quality at this time and it might be good for it. Come a years time, your'll know if it was worth it or not, meanwhile enjoy yourself :)
