Lovely Wolver-ampton!
Never wanted to get a console, but i really like the driving games on my mates ps2 and xbox.

so, for racing games. ps2 or xbox?

can leave my pc for work stuff and a console for gaming. im sure most of the games are on budget labels so i can get a decent batch.

question is...which one?

whichever you want, for pure cost id say wii

however after re reading your post id go with ps2 more selection of games and cheaper

EDIT>>yes im a noob didnt read it right

oh yeah forza motorsport (is it?)

i saw that ad a while back and was tempted with an xbox then. project gothat looks nice too.

apart from gran turismo (which gets boring) and maybe colin mcrae... what other driving games are out there (both platforms?)

i think £100 should get me a console and 4 or 5 games and a couple of controllers shouldn't it?

Definitely the Xbox.
For my Project Gotham Racing 2 is the greatest driving game ever. It's just pure brilliance. Absolutely amazing title.

Then there is Forza, another awesome driving game, although I preferred Gran Turismo 4 to it.

But PGR2 is enough of a reason for me to recommend the Xbox.

I'd go with the xbox to be honest. PGR, PGR2, Forza, Rallisport Challenge 1 & 2, Need for Speed games plus numerous more I can't think of at present.

sounds like a winner.

a friend of mine is a manger at gamestation. reckon second hand is ok? seems to be a lot of faulty xbox's on ebay - slightly concerning. doesn't appear to be quite so many ps2's there. spose it's swings and roundabouts.

Personally, I would go against buying second hand because the rate that 360s are failing brand new is simply shocking :(

Depends what your after. The PS2 ad Xbox both have a good range of racin games, I used to love playing the old TOCA Race Driver games and now Test Drive Unlimited is on the PS2, along with the Burnout series and Gran Turismo its quite a tough call. The PS2 will have more readily accessible games out there, whereas games on eh Xbox may behard to get ahold of if your afte somethign in particular. However, the Xbox has Forza and PGR, which are probably some of the biggest names in the console market.

To be honest its a tough one to call. The PS2 is still havng loads of games made for it, whereas the Xbox isnt, but the Xbox has more well known quality titles. Personally Id be edging towards the PS2, as the knowledge that no more, or very few games will appear for the Xbox from now would put me off somewhat, and the PS2 is still going strong.

Well PS2 would be a good choice because there is much more racing games for it, xbox is a good choice because of pgr2, but I think a ps2 would be the best bet, as ps2 is still going and has life left in it and there are less faulty units.

I'd say Xbox for PGR2 and Forza Motorsport, the Burnout series are also a good laugh. Also, the Original Xbox is selling a bit cheaper, if you were to buy from a popular games retailer that sells a lot of traded in games/consoles...

That said, Gran Turismo 4 is very addictive, for a while, once you get further in it really drags on. Wipeout is a decent alternative to typical car racing games though. Burnout also available on PS2, it has the latest release aswell.

Imo, the Xbox wins if only for the controller, but it does have Halo which is a good laugh should you wish to play more than racng games.
PS2 has a massive games library though and there are some classics that could be picked up for very cheap these days.

Either way, aslong as you get a good deal, you wouldn't be unimpressed.

Rallisport 1 + 2 really stand out for the xbox, superb games, plus I always found the PGR series more fun than the GT series. Having completed GT1, then played 20% through GT3 I hardly played GT4 at all since it was just the same thing again (same damn tracks again for the fourth game in a row  ). Having said that if you're new to the series I'm sure you'd love GT4. PGR definitely has more variety though if you're tired of the GT format of just straight racing. Forza is excellent too if you can endure the nasty AI.

Haven't bought anything for PS2 since GT4 though so there could be some gems I've missed. Both systems have Burnout and TOCA btw.

PS2 has Wipeout Fusion which I do love though. I'd buy a PS3 right now if it had a new Wipeout :D Please make one, someone, please... :)

Personally I'd opt for the Xbox! PGR2 is one of the best racers ever imo and it had me hooked for ages! It's also very challenging in places as well. Forza was another great racer too!

for pure fun racers I would go for an n64 F-zero, diddy kong racing and mariocart are fantastic fun but thats all they are.

If you want something a bit more serious then the xbox as there are lot of good driving games but a bit more simulated, for arcade racers I think the ps2 wins. Its all down to the style of racing you want.

On a side note if you go for the ps2 I would buy a new slimline as you can pick them up for £50 then fleabay for some games.
