Happy to be of help. Should be a cracking system :)

Just one last thing, do you have any speakers? A decent set really helps in whole gaming experience.

Speakers look very cool.

The Sound card which comes with the Rampage 2 is not really a proper sound card. It just runs the X-Fi software on the motherboard and has the I/O on the little card - there is no X-Fi chip. The sound performance is a bit better than standard motherboard sound but it isn't a patch on a real sound card like an X-Fi extreme gamer or a Xonar DX/D1.

A very nice sound card there, I'm getting the PCI version for a home music system in the week.

As for fitting it on your motherboard:

If you went for the Rampage 2 then you would need to put it the one free PCI-Express x16 slot.

However, if you went for the Gigabyte UD5 you could put it in the top orange PCI-Express x4 slot. The advantage of this is that it leaves the third PCI-E x16 slot free. (so you can add another PCI-E card in the future)

is the far left a pci x16 slot (white)?

if im right in thinking the 2 gfx cards will be on the 2 blue slots, and also covering 1 slot to the left each, leaving the 1 left on the end for the^^

Yes, the far white slot is indeed 3rd the PCI-E x16 slot on the Rampage 2. Your right that your graphics cards will take up two slots, so the ports to the left of the PCI-E x16 slot they are put in will be unusable.

For reference, on the Gigabyte UD5 the PCI-E x16 slots are the two blue/green ones and the bottom orange one. (Even with 3 dual slot graphics cards - the top orange x4 slot will be free)

so that sound card with the small fitment wont fit then :( back to square 1 again lol :P

pretty sure ill stick with the rampage though

The ASUS Xonar DX sound card will fit in the Rampage board with your setup (ie 2x gtx 285s) - it will go in the one unused x16 slot. It just means you will not be able to fit much else in after that.

PCI-Express x1 cards will happily work in x16 slots (or x8 or x4 for that matter)

but if the 2 285s fit into the 2 blue connections and cover over to each left wont the small white connection on the right be covered inwhich i thought the sound card can only fit into?

The sound card fits in the far left white connection (looks the same as the blue ones, just different colour). The graphics cards only cover the port which is immeditely to the left on that picture. Therefore a PCI-E 1x (the litte one) and the PCI (the big white one which is offset compared to the PCI-E ports) will be covered, but the far left PCI-E port will be completely free for you to put your sound card in.

ah ok, when i looked at the sound card on the picture the small connections on it made me think it would only fit into the smaller connection not the far left white one :)
