My First new car - VW Tiguan

6 lanes of lunatics who are texting, undertaking and tailgating isn't my idea of fun tbh, plus far too many speed cameras there now. But its a necessary evil ;)

And speed bumps in random places... They are so high often catch under your car. Many a time I've had to emegancy brake when one has come out of nowhere!

I've seen people using one phone for calling and another for texting while driving.

In UAE, drivers love to...

Hide in your blind spot (on both sides)

Tailgate almost touching your bumper

If you indercate to change lanes or exits, drivers will accelerate into your space and do anything to block your route.

Leaving an exit on your right, there is always someone that will drive past you on the left and nip in front with 6 feet left of the road. At the same time someone is trying undertake you on the hard shoulder and someone tailgating you.

If a car wizzes past you at 140+ all the other cars with tinted widows will suddenly try to follow at same speed.

On an empty road a white bus will change lanes into you just as you pass them!

... And if a FAST approching car flashes their lights at you it means I'm not stopping for anyone and get out of my way. Very difficult if you are being undertook on the hard shoulder, a white bus is changing lanes into you and the person in front is breaking hard.

Sounds like a country full of douchebag motorists. Are they just as unpleasant out of their cars?

Its a cultural thing.. if you drive like this its considered more "alpha" and skillful..

(REUTERS)"The driving habits of young male Emiratis sparked an outcry last year when several were caught on camera spinning and skidding on two wheels in trucks across a main commuter highway in broad daylight in Dubai, one of seven emirates.

A survey conducted by faculty members of the United Arab Emirates University found that aggressive tailgating, headlight flashing and cutting off other cars were all considered manly by young Emirati men, who took a disparaging view of traffic laws."

Then the westerners do it because it becomes the norm and they can get away with it..

and another huge section of the population just dont know how to drive at all..(Bus/taxi dropping off on roundabouts, reversing up hard shoulders to get to a missed exit - thats a really popular one :P)
