Right, i've decided i need a new phone - and with the amount i use my phone nower days i reckon its best and cheapest if i get a contract.. so i want o2 and i want sony erricson. so ive been looking on the o2 web site and theres some good deals going. one thing i want to make sure of is

If it says the handset is free on £30 contact
and the contract is £30 for example
and delivery is free

once orderd they will start a direct debit each month for £30 ? no hidden VAT fees or anything silly?

and assuming i stay within the allowed minutes and texts i wont ever pay over £30?

also just a quick questions about the free minutes aswell

1.Inclusive minute allowance
The inclusive minutes can be used for any UK mobile network and standard UK Fixed Lines and excludes 07744, 07755, 0871 and premium rate numbers. Applies to use in the UK only. Inclusive minutes can be used at anytime except on Online Leisure Plans when the inclusive minutes can only be used 7pm to 7am weekdays and all weekend.

thats exactly what it says on the tin? no like hidden catches or anything?

sorry for being a contract noob, i just have heard horror stories about people having massive bills (obviously becuase they use their phone to much) but i just wanna make sure assuming i stick to the limits i will just be paying fixed £30 :)

Confirm that the monthly charge is inclusive of VAT.
Also remember that most networks do charge you seperately to call your voicemail and don't allow that to be taken out of your inclusive minutes.
So if you miss a lot of calls you may find your bill increased as you call voicemail.
Also read through all of the terms & conditions as you'll find most if not all premium rate lines are not included in your monthly minutes.

just seen if i get the £35 contact its free voicemail, also roll over minutes.. and 250 more texts so i will probably get that one.. reading through the terms and cond's not, just wanted to see if anyone knows of anything i might be missing :)

*edit*

what exactly do you mean by premium rate numbers? is that basicly call centers, 0845 (i think its that) numbers and stuff? wont effect normal residential numbers will it?

Premium numbers starts with 09.
These are calls usually 75p+/min.

0845 are local rates number, about 15p/min.
These are also not inclusive.

Oh?

what about

<Area Code> 9******

numbers? cos thats like the local numbers for Reading?

eg my number is

0118 9417***

?

thanks for the replys!

Inclusive minutes, any UK network

=

ANY landline numbers ie. House phones within the UK.
Also ANY UK mobile networks ie. Orange/Voda/T-Mob as long as within UK.

Basically, stay away from 09/08/07744/07755 as these are not inclusive.

0118 9417*** will be in your minutes.

My O2 contract includes 0845 in the inclusive minutes; don't most O2 contracts?

local numbers are irrelevant, they don't begin with '0'.

Looks like 0845 are included, my mistake but 0871(national rate) are NOT.

Easy mistake to do, since AFAIK only O2 includes some non-geographic numbers (certainly Orange, who I was with previously, were very stingy about what was included).

On my tariff, I do get 0870 national rate numbers included, but not 0871 (from my t&c's):
  • UK Fixed Line Calls include calls made in the UK to standard UK Fixed-Line Numbers, voicemail menu access and retrieval, fax calls and calls to free phone, local rate and national rate numbers (0845 and 0870) and 0800, 0808 and 0844 numbers
  • Inclusive minutes apply to calls made in the UK to UK Fixed Lines, calls to O2 Mobiles, UK network mobiles, voicemail 901 and excludes 07744 and 07755 numbers
  • Inclusive minutes cannot be used to call numbers with the 0871 prefix.
