Well having read loads of threads and finally gathered up the courage to venture in to my bios i have succesfully overclocked my cpu by a whopping 40mhz. But thats not the point i wanted to ask a couple questions before i continue. Heres what ive done so far.

Lowered HTT multiplier to 4
Set my ram to run at 166mhz (although in my bios it says 333mhz)
Increased my fsb by 4mhz.
Locked the pci clock to 33.3mhz

So right now my cpu is running at 204x10 = 2040mhz

im using an a8n-sli deluxe with a thermalright (thermaltake w/e) si-120 and my cpu is a 3200+ winchester. Although my ram is just kingston value ram and only one stick (1gb) would that effect anything? And i have a Tagan 480-uo1 psu so that shouldnt cause me any problems right?

My questions were is there anything else that i should know about before i continue i know all the consequences i mean in terms of things i should look out for in the bios and also my htt is running at 800mhz is that too slow? or does it not make a difference? and also what speeds have people gotten on their 3200's?

thanks for the help

The PSU and memory will be fine.

And a 800mhz HTT is fine too until you get the FSB to over 250mhz. Then you can drop it to 600mhz upto a 300mhz FSB.

Just keep an eye on your temps as your push it higher.

so right now i dont have to play with memory dividers (which i cant find in my bios probably because it has a wierd name) or anything of that sort..ive been told on other forums to try and get my ram to run at its full speed which im presuming is done using a divider am i correct?

this is what ive got regarding my ram in cpu-z:

The RAM dividers are the 400mhz, 333mhz, 266mhz and 200mhz settings that you have in the BIOS. It's currently on the 333mhz setting, which is the 5:4 divider. The 400mhz setting would be the 1:1 setting.

Setting the memory on a divider allows you to overclock your cpu without having to worry about the memory being able to keep up. Once you get to 250mhz you might want to start thinking about lowing the divider again to the 266 setting if your system starts to become unstable. Then you can push the cpu even further.

so basically im pretty much good to go increasing my fsb till i hit a wall..anyone know what speeds people have been getting with their 3200's just as a reference?

Not really on an AMD system. You can tweak your timings once you have settled on the speed.

one last question :P would reducing the speed of my ram make a huge difference in performance?

Well you'll be increasing its speed as you bring the fsb up. You want to aim to keep it around or SLIGHTLY over its stock speed. i would say 20mhz either way of stock will be comepletely unnoticeable to be honest. And if it turns out that your cpu leaves you slightly under the ram speed, you could always tighten up the timings a bit.

well i thought id give you guys an update...right now ive got it to 2.25ghz ran orthos for 2 hours and the maximum temp was 43 degress...im sure theres still room for more but ive got a couple more questions..

how much of a performance difference is there between 512kb and 1mb cache..i.e. would there be huge difference between my cpu at 2.4ghz and a 4000+...and when do i know when to increase the volts up a bit? is it when it fails to get into windows or is when its unstable in windows?

Up the volts if its unstable as in fails a prime95 test or wont get in windows. Only after your sure its not a different problem like ht is too high or somit or ram is too much.

i just bought new ram from the members market...corsair platinum series pc3200 2x512mb..which im sure will probably be better than my current 1gb value ram..when i recieve can i just stick em and everything will work or do i have to check anything in the bios i.e. will it default the speeds to 1:1 or will my divider still be the same?

Right well i think ive reached my maximum OC...currently at 2450mhz with 1.525v (im one notch below the maximum v my asus a8n-sli deluxe will give me)...i wouldve thought it couldve gone a bit hight and was wondering if theres anything else i should know of that can help reach higher speeds? It was stable at a much lower voltage at 2.4ghz (i had to go into the bios twice to increase the voltages before orthos didnt crash after a couple minutes when i got to 2.45ghz)

would the new ram that ill be getting soon help me achieve a higher clock? or is there anything else that can be done for me to push my cpu just a bit more? and whats the highest voltage i should go up to?

Tbh I'm not sure how well 3200+ Winchester's clocked.

~1.5v is probably the highest you should put through it. Personally I'd drop back down to 2.4ghz if it's stable at a much lower voltage.

I can't see your new memory making any difference as you're running on a divider. And it'll have to run at the same speeds as your current Kingston anyway.

well it just crashed or w/e in orthos after nearly 2 hours :( if it can do everything that i do on a day to day basis without causing any problems cant it be considered stable?
