My first Overclock... Should I touch Voltage?

Hi,

After taking advice here from CMD (Which was great advice!)

I went and bought a AMD PHenom II x4 955 instead of the 980 and plan to overclock it to 3.7 (Speeds of 980).

I have now done this, ran a few benchmarks and everything seems stable.
I used AMD Over Drive (Though after rebooting, keeps resetting my clock speeds back to default?).

Anyway, I got to Multiplayer 18.5x = 3.7ghz

I could maybe go further, but I want to stop there... Its stable and I have not touch the VOltage or the NB?

Do I need to touch the voltage and NB even if i am stable by touching the Multiplier?

Or am I good to go safely now?

THanks for replys.

Cheers

If everything is stable, then there is no need for you touch the voltage. Only when you get crashes or BSoD's under stress test, or you fail to boot into Windows would you need to increase the voltage.

Keep going if you want to, only when you are experiencing stability issues should you increase the Vcore.

There is no need for you to increase the NB because it is Black Edition chip and so all overclocking to the CPU is done by increasing the multiplier. Only if you intend on overclocking the memory should you increase the FSB/Baseclock

You should never really overclock outside the BIOS. It can lead to all sorts of problems, so yes, you should do the overclocking from within.

The stock voltage for an AMD Phenom II X4 955BE is 1.35v.

I am not entirely sure why it happens, will have to wait for someone with a bit more experience than me, but it happens to lots of people; you are not doing anything wrong.

I just checked bios.

It is set to auto and normal, which states 1.4 as normal?!??

I am ok to leave it at 1.4 with my 3.7 oc?

Also I have just put bios to 18.5 and now in CPU-Z the CPU does not jump to 803mhz when not in use to safe heart and energy.

Does OCing turn off the quiet and Cooling thing AMD have?

Just leave it as 1.4 then if it is saying that 1.4v is the norm.

You will need to turn off the AMD Cool 'n' Quiet manually. There should be options in the BIOS to turn it off.
