There's a hell of a lot of talent on this forum, but here's my humble first post effort shot in the Maldives last week. I hope some of you like it.

maldives1smallzp8.jpg

EOS 5D, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM @ 24mm, F5.7 @ 1/2048 sec, ISO 400.

C & C welcome.

Thanks.

The rope makes it and coming from you I'm flattered :)

Yep, vignetting is there. Guess that's full-frame for you.

Pic is totally uncropped and unprocessed btw. Just reduced in size via Fireworks.

Could do with some basic editing imo, bring out the colours a bit more, create a tad more contrast between sea and sky.

Not sure the wood at the bottom adds anything, maybe try a crop to remove it.

Also, is that the natural curve of the horizon or lens distortion?
Yeah, maybe more sky/sea contrast, but this pic is totally untouched. I kind of like that.

The horizon curve is lens distortion @ 24mm full-frame CCD.

Wood at the bottom is another identical boat btw, which I was on at the time.

I like it without, but not sure whether I like it more.

OT - Spie - Did you catch any Bonefish in the end? :)
No bonefish but caught 2 x Jobfish, 2 x Wahoo, 1 x Red Snapper, 3 x Grouper, 3 x small Tuna. The Wahoo were very strong indeed.

Sadly not, nor would a fly rod have had a chance against a 20lb Wahoo.

Trolling for the Wahoo and Snapper using artificial quid. Bottom fishing using fresh Tuna strips for everything else.

sorry for off-topic Spie, but have just tried sending an email to the address in your trust and it seems that your account isn't working!

got an alternate email or something? mine's in trust :)
Mail a Don please :)

Yeah, wierd isn't it, but that's the EXIF info. Ideally I would have stopped down to F11, but I was set on aperture priority at F5.6 and just took it.

The sky looks much better, but this is where I get confused. Just how far should you go to manipulate an image? My original shot is what I saw and I quite like the purity of that, but the altered image does look "better". I guess everyone has their own limits for manipulation.
