Hey everyone!
I'm pretty excited about this first dream build of mine, which I would like to become a reality soon.
Since this is my first time building a pc EVER, and even picking out the components for it, I'm not quite confident that I did do everything right even though a researched every single component before I went ahead and added it to my chart.

So that's why I'm in here, to show you my project and hopefully get some feedback on improvements or wether it's a decent build or not for the amount of money I'm going to spend on it.

So now to the more exciting part.
The build:

Motherboard:
For the motherboard I decided to go with the Asus Rampage IV GENE Intel X79 because of what I read it's one of the best motherboards out there within that pricerange. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-508-AS

CPU:
For CPU I decided to go with something that would compliment my motherboard in the best way and this was definitely together with the Asus Rampage. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-502-IN

Graphics Card
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-223-EA

Memory

PSU
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-044-SS

Hard Drive
For my hard drive I went with something a little different than usual, but hopefully this should be able to do the job.

Case

Optical Drive
And last but not least the optical drive or DVD drive.

Total : £1,019.22

Note: This is the first time trying to put together a pc from scratch so feel free to come with good as well as bad critic which can hopefully make the rig better :)

Now I'm not as informed as some people on this forum but having done a lot of research into parts for my new build I'm not sure I would go with some of the parts you chose.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X Rev2.0 WindForce 3X OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £249.95
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £249.95
1 x Asus Maximus VII Hero Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £164.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black (CC-9011030-WW) £98.95
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £89.99

1 x Pioneer 24x Internal DVR-221LBK DVD Rewriter - OEM £13.49
Total : £1,137.24 (includes shipping : £12.50).

here is what i come up with, A bit more expensive but I think your future proofing in the short term with the Z97 board which you can also put the brand new chips in when they are released in a couple of weeks (unlocked 'k' versions that is), The ASUS hero seems like the best RoG board at the moment, although you can get the gene z97 for a bit less money and some of the features on the z97 RoG boards look amazing.

The Corsair Air 540 is an amazing case - Its awesome if your not water cooling but if you decide to try it down the line its got more than enough space in it for rad's and at the price its a steal in my opinion.

A nice cooler for your i7 if you chose to overclock it. I have heard good things about the ram and 8gb is more than enough for gaming. EVGA PSU as they are a good make and come with a 10 year warranty.

If you cant afford a SSD for windows then WD black would probably be your best option performance wise for HDD however you can pick up this for a but extra money for windows (you could even reduce the cost by only getting a 500gb WD black for storage if you wished).

Just my 2 cents and tbh most of my info is from the awesome members giving me advice on this forum so i cant take full credit.

Hope this helps.

It certainly does! Might have to reconsider this build again, and actually go for the Haswell. But this is just the tip of the iceberg and lots of changes are to come I'm pretty sure.

I'd go for the haswell as well. if you're not in a rush, wait for the new K version that should be out soon. if you're not planning on overclocking ever, go for the non k ones.
and I wouldn't go for the phantom (i had one) if you're ever planning on watercooling.

Yeah well I guess it won't hurt waiting for the new ones, although overclocking is not my top priority since I'm not very experienced with pc's (yet) so not gonna jump into anything I don't know jacksh*t about, but eventually it will probably happen. Damn that sucks I really did like the phantom case, even though watercooling isn't going to be build in the first round it might come later. I just prefer a white case that's pretty much what's most important. (regarding cases)

i didn't know anything about computers last year but after a couple of months I decided to start overclocking and it was worth it!

and don't get me wrong, it's not horrible to work with, it's just not ideal.
how about the 540 or the 760T?

The 540 is slightly too big for my taste, and doesn't really have anything "special" to it. But I do like the 760T with the fan details at the front. But would prefer something that was completely white, and if that's not possible then something like completely black.

This machine will primarily be used for gaming. And yes I have considered an SSD but I would prefer more space on the hard drive over the little speed increase with an SSD. And an SSD HD will be pretty pricey if you're gonna get a lot of gb's on it.

most people use an ssd for os and programs, and a hdd for data. It more than a small speed increase, I can press the on button and my pc is on in the time it takes me to sit in my chair :p

That does make it tempting to get an SSD. Would it be possible to get an SSD together with a HDD? Cause there's a pretty decent bundle ocuk got going on right now. It's just so much more expensive, and my budget is pretty tight. Got 1-1,2k to spend.

Deffo get an SSD and a hard drive for storage. Go for 120Gb Kingston SSD they are only like £55 and are very fast and reliable - you won't regret it!

by shopping around you can find really good deals on SSDs. at the minute I'm using a 120gb samsung evo for OS and BF4 and 1TB seagate for data. switching my OS to the ssd is the best upgrade I've done so far

Alright seems like you guys are not only recommending me to get an SSD, but also telling me to get one. And since I'm quite sure I don't have more knowledge than you within this area, I will take your advice, and get an SSD for OS and a hard drive for storage.

Thanks for all the great response guys, appreciate it!

OBS! Will probably edit this thread when I get all my items ordered, and let you guys follow up on the progress :)
