My first rig project :D

Here's how I've closed it up.
Small power head to mobo is running along the back and then up at top left. Its a stretch but Im pretty sure its ok.
I guess you can see what I've done with the 24pin
All spare PCIs are under optical (not in picture)

Thanks for your reply Raikiri.

I got some of these issues ironed out now, i.e. no longer worrying that I'd busted some part of the mobo.

I am interested though, why / how will fliiping the PSU help with those things. Don't want to think about recabling just now tbh :)

Also another thing I sorted was flickr, my LAN connection is just sio slow it timed out. I grabbed a spare wireless nodule and now thats fine though,.. I'll have to buy one of my own

Uh yeh, am I missing a bolt thing there on the outside of the case, middle right?

No no, that is one of the screw holes for the second fan :)

Also will you be putting in a GPU?

And gonna try some cable management? Your cables look better than my un-braided ones :p

@Tibbz, ah yeh ofc it is...
GPU is going in/purcahsed when the series 7 is released and theres some good offers on the go.
Currently trying to test the integrated GX against the stem server, but its taking soooo long to DL red alert 3
I'm at a loss with the cable management tbh. Im pretty sure that ther're routed most logically, but maybe I need some ties to tidy it up?

Here's how it is presently;

All the pcis are bundled under the optical. The rest of the cables are stored / running through the hard drive bays, including the one thats linked up to the fans etc etc on the opposite side.
That 'HD Audio' one bugs me... just hovering above the PSU, its got the Ac37 header next to it, which as far as I understand is redundant.

Word of advice. Look inside the post the inside of your case thread in case central - stickied. There will no doubt be someone with a z9 with better cabling, so you will be able to look at how they've done to to possibly make yours look neater.

It's not always about the most logical (shortest) route, to make stuff look tidy.

Good advice, much appreciated!

I know that already though

Ive had my computer going for a few months now and all is well (mostly).

A few things I could use some help with;

When I switch it on, it switches itself off before starting again. No idea why, doesn't seem to be an issue but I'd like to know why. It started doing this after I opened her up and re-jigged some cables.

Are all the SATA ports on the Asus P8Z68 the same speed?

Are certain SATA cables different speeds? I read in one of the many manuals I've acquired that 2 of the supplied cables were 3Gb/sec and the other 2 were 6 Gb/sec - there was no way to tell apart though. Maybe I misunderstood but I'd like to know that I've got it right.

I want to invest in a mid range GFX card now. Any pointers? My price range is £200 max (though I'd spend a little more if there was a clear winner).

I could probably answer these questions myself but I wanted to post something on here. I've got some other questions but I've got to get back to work now!

Yo.
She's still holding well after 10 months, though I still haven't upgraded with a dedicated GXF and therefore still not poom ting enough for the gaming experience I want. Been busy this year moving house so its taken back stage.
Anyway, GFX card I'll decide upon and purchase end of december. I was really hoping for some advice as to any minor tweeks / upgrades I can make this month to make her even more poom ting for when the GFX lands.
I'm thinking upgrade to 16mb ram?

Any other suggestions?

*cough*GB*cough*

whats this mean?

yup I asked on another thread with this query and, again, I got some useful ideas.

What I'll do over the next 2 months is add an ssd for win7 and games, as well as the gpu. This and a bit of learning / overall tweeking of the system should result with the pc I set out to build.

More pics to follow :)
