my first rpg

Haven't played Skyrim but I would imagine it makes a good starting point, personally when attempting a new genre for the first time I would always recommend modern games (providing they are highly rated of course) as they tend to be more streamlined and easier to get in to. Then once that's out of the way you can explore back-catalogues from Bethesda, Bioware etc.

You mean Bioware, Black Isle Studios, Interplay and Troika? :p

Can you list your top 5 rpg's? I have really only got into them and loving them. So far witcher 1/2, risen, Oblivion, two worlds 1/2

Couple more I cant think off. I just got a shed load of old ones from amazon like baldurs gate pack, neverwinter nights etc.

Cheers

top 5 RPGs of all time would be:

FF IX
FF Tactics War of the Lions
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
Elder Scrolls Skyrim
Guild Wars

If I was going to recommend any modern day RPGs now, it would definitely be Elder Scrolls Skyrim, or if you have a PS3/PSP and don't mind the graphics then the Final Fantasy series, alternatively, if you don't mind MMOs then WoW/Guild Wars/Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is worth having a go, you can get free trial for WoW up to the first 20 levels so you wouldn't lose anything by trying, I personally don't play it any more because it takes far too much time.

No Baldur's Gate II and Planscape Torment on the list? Fallout 2?

What is this madness?

Skyrim is also not the best Elder Scrolls game from the series, it's the most polished one and with the most enjoyable gameplay but story-wise, it's quite behind the likes of Morrowind, a few aspects of Oblivion and the sheer scale of the Daggerfall.

I'm not really into Western RPGs.
