My first site/blog

Well I just launched my first website running WordPress and a custom theme on my new webhost. The whole process was easier than I expected and even learned how to use ftp while I was at it, there is still some work to be done, and I will be updating my blog from now on :)

Please tell me if you like it or give me constructive criticism. Im also looking for a slightly fancier and more memorable template so if anyone can show me one I would be greatfull, or just any way I can improove my site, or something im not doing that I should be.

Yikes that text is tiny! The lack of contrast makes it doubly hard to read.

I would seriously consider a larger font size and/or change of colour.

The overall design I quite like. The only change I would probably make is making the border between the background [stripey] and the content [black] more defined.

Not sure right now what would look best but it might give you something to poke about with :)
 
I agree what the other guys have said, text is too small and too dark.

Also its probably best to change your permalink structure.

Are you looking for a dark theme or a light one? I chose the one done by Nick over at n-designstudio as it has sidebar wideget support, it looks cool, and it wasn't used that much (research 4tw) however its started appearing everywhere now so I'm thinking of swapping to another one. :(

Have a peek at mine (In sig) aswell as here for plugin inspiration.

(Yes, I have far too many and its bloating the site out!)

I was looking at your blog yesterday WotDa its actually really nice, Im looking for a darker theme which I will probably stick with though but take a look at your plugins though.

Also does anyone know how to change the size and colour of the text, wordpress wont let me edit the theme's files through it.

You'll need to change the CHMOD's to do it through the admin interface I assume, I edit all my stuff on my pc though, download the file, back it up, change things and then upload it.

However, I'm not that sure if you can change the size of the text in the body, have a poke through the css though.

Another quick question :) how is it possible to edit the text which appears underneath the "ABOUT" bit on my front page? It just says underneath it "Write here some info about the author of the blog" but I dont know how to edit it? :confused:
 
I'm guessing that that is a sidebar element, in which case it'll be in your wp-content/themes/yourtheme/sidebar.php
 
Right I messed my Wordpress install up and had to reinstall it :( but I found a new theme and I think ive set it up. If anyone could comment on my layout and tell me what you think, Ive just went with a nice bright one this time round, also please tell me if my sidebar is looking good. Thanks.

Looks really nice, good text sizes great :D 1 thing i would suggest is making an Index page on the main directory. Sometime people get scared and hit the back button when they see that :D
