You kay
This is will be my first ever PC let alone one im building my self. Thats just because I use the oh so superiour Macs :D, but now gaming has become so big on the PC format I simply cant help but get involved.

1.Gaming (This hopefully going to be built for the release of Crysis)
2.Photoshop work (My mac is becoming a little sluggish using CS3)
3.Basic Web and Email.

My big plan would be to eventually add an identical grapics card and run them Sli. After that I might consider additional RAM. But atm I feel this would be all be overkill. I want to get this working before I go adding to much to it.

Questions are the norm:
1.Could I do any better for near same price?
2.Overclocking is a scary world to me but one I want to tackle, anything better than I have for this? (Mainly i looked at This Ram as its the same price but is apprently more overclockable.)
3.Is the 550W PSU enough?
4.How future proof?
5. If theres any recomendations then just throw them at me. Even if the price is a bit more, its always something I could consider to upgread later.

If you're going to spend that much on a system then I would definately take out the AMD chip/mobo as they are a waste of money when a C2D would outperform the AMD even at stock. C2D overclock much further than AMD chips when combined with a decent motherboard. That 550W PSU is fine, im running a C2D overclocked E6600 at 3GHz with an 8800 and an Antec 550W PSU. No problems.

Here are the core components I would recommend to you. These are the items I would alter in you're spec you gave. This would give you a very high-spec gaming machine even at stock. It would allow you to reach 3.4GHz+ speeds and offer superb performance. That AMD would eat dirt.

it may look more expencive than mishima's spec but this includes a psu, case and os... the psu that you had on your spec wont run 2x 8800's in sli but this one will....

they are pre-order m8.... seems pointless to buy the e6600's when they are so much cheaper and oc as well.. not even any cache diffrence wither tbh... he isnt wanting his spec for now so i thought id add it

Now im scared confused and hiding.

I would like to just say thanks for the quick responces first.

Secondly, i'm a right **** when it comes to cosmetics. So i'll stick with my orginal case, just because I rather like it and already have plans for modding it.

The advice on the RAM seems sound and im going with that.
We now have 3 opinions on a hard drive, how important is that, will there be that big a difference or are you all going on personal preferance.

I cant help but notice that we are going down in Ghz in the processer. Call me an idiot but i thought that higher was better.

I liked the look of the mobo/prosesser combo that mishima suggested. TBH unless some can explain why the E6320 is better then I'll go with that.

The graphics card paul_64l and mishima look identical, im guessing that is all in the overclocking with that?

tbh a lot of what you want is personal preferance... the c2d's will do more per clock and will also overclock to well over 3ghz (see my sig on my e6600)

some things picked are this weeks special.... you will need a god psu if you intend on using 2 8800's.. also would you be better of getting a diffrent dvd-rw if the case is silver?

Gonna spray the pannels black to match the rest of the case :D

This is the latest spec which pushes the price up a bit, this means it will be a lot later till i could afford it :( (only a month or so). But i'm still more than open to changes. I might still take the PSU advice, but the more I look at it the less sure I am about the likelyhood of me adding another card later to requier it, or if i would even rather save money in the short run.

Thanks for all your advice, keep it coming :)

Thats right, even the low clocked C2D chips (1.8GHz stock) will overclock to over 3GHz+ so if you are on a tight budget the lower clocked chips are the ones for you. All you have to do is find a decent motherboard like the ones we have suggested and change a few settings via BIOS and you are there - bang for buck :)

The different branded 8800's just have slightly different clock speeds and stickers. Of course the customer services/warranty is important too, infact I would say this is the essential thing to help you choose a card. BFG generally have the best warranty.

So if i'm corrrect the advantage of a higher clocking processer at stock is that it could be overclocked with less strain (for what of a better word) that that of a processer that clocks at a lower speed. But that is to say that both could reach north of 3ghz

Generally all the CPU's are made with the same silicon slices as the rest of its family. IIRC, the actual clock speeds of the lower rated CPU's are just restricted versions of the higher, rather than the other way round. This means that the E6300 (for example) would give you more or less the same "overclockability" (for want of a real word) as the E6600. Yes, the 6600 would have a higher clock cap, but also a higher price.

Search some of the sigs on the forum or the threads for what people has squeezed out of their CPU's with relative ease. by that i mean not inside enormous watercooled monsters sitting in a freezer. The impression i get is that the E6400 generally clocks to about 3.2 - 3.4ghz, and the E6600 at 3.7 - 3.8ghz.

I'd personally say, judging by what you said you wanted your PC to do, that you'd be just aswell going with a lower range CPU (that pre-order one looks lovely for its price, especially with its Cache) and putting the extra money (if you feel the need to spend it) on the Ram or PSU.

Also, if you have to wait anyway for the funding, i'd wait for the R600 before you dive into SLi with 2x 8800GTS, see what happens to the prices across the board.

All of the above is subject to me being completely wrong though! As mentioned, its personal taste more than anything.
