well as per title really, the thing is i'm in doubt over the legality of where the camera van was situated. It is at the top of a blind hill, where there was previously a fixed camera facing the otherway....now if that camera had since been removed surely setting up there cant be legal?! (assuming the previous one was removed for legality reasons)

I just want to know, by questioning the positioning of the van and the obvious such as the last time the camera had been serviced/calibrated will i potentially increase my fine/points.

It was clocked at 55 in a 30....while it sounds bad its up hill and a pedestrian free zone with no pavement etc, the other thing being doing 30 up the hill brings on a near stall in 3rd.

Well I suppose you cant complain because you were doing 25mph more than you should have. What would you have said if it was a police car and not a camera van.

Bad Luck Fella!

You were doing 55MPH in a 30MPH? Surely that's more than just a fine and three points?

Either way, there's always a chance to contest the ticket. There are a few websites which offer advice and resources (Letter templates etc). Try Google.

as i've explained its up hill and a dual carriage way-like road. Its not a pedestrian zone at all, it would be impossible for people to be anywhere near that stretch.

Will contesting it increase the punishment?

contesting it usually leads a bigger punishment. you were doing 55 in a 30 zone. what can you say to argue that?

Can't see how there are legal issues over where a speed camera is (mobile or not)

Can't see you using that effectivly as an excuse in court.

So go into 2nd you ******* fool!

Oh and the good news... 55 in a 30 will get you more than 3 points and £60... more like 6 points and a court visit?

Since when was that an excuse? Oh and no I bet its not impossible for somebody to be there.

Try contesting it and then post the results here :D

I've just been looking into it & apparently... if you're doing in excess of a certain speed in an advertised speed there is a good chance of an INSTANT ban... here's the table.

30 mph In excess of 51 mph
40 mph In excess of 66 mph
50 mph In excess of 75 mph
60 mph In excess of 85 mph
70 mph In excess of 100 mph

So getting clocked @ 55 you could be banned apparently :S

How do you know you were clocked at 55? Has just a normal ticket come through? If it has and all you've got is 3 points & a fine... count yourself lucky.

Personally... I always drive within the above limits... no more than 100 on a motorway etc

Ah - this is the post I'm more used to on OcUK.
After the shock and surprise I had the other day where somebody came online, posted they had been caught and then basically asked what they had to do next with regards paying the fine etc.

Now we're back to the way things should be, a good old:
I've been caught doing almost double the speed limit - please help me find a way around it because honest, I've learnt my lesson.

It even had a "There were no pedestrians around or pavements" - as if that is the only reason not to speed.
All it needed was a "Child killer, lolz" and it would have been complete.

You were going up a blind hill at almost double the speed limit and then failed to slow down in time for the camera van.
What if that camera van had been a car broadside in the road for whatever reason - would you have then been able to magically slow down in time?
