my first speeding ticket

after doing some reading on the area, it seems if i did have to go to court, the type of road and layout is taken into consideration etc. I've been driving for 4 years and i was over-taking at the time. But hopefully it wont come down to a court visit

So you were caught by a camera van while you were doing 55mph in a 30mph zone while overtaking someone up a blind hill.

Oh dear, is the only comment I can make really.

its at the discression of the officer issuing the ticket if your caught in person.i got let off without a ticket for 98mph on the m1 in northants.the reason i was let off was due to it being 4am,clear,good visibility(for night) and no traffic on the road and fact i was driving a 150mph+ car,the same model that the cop who stopped me owned:D
luck of the draw really:(

Apparantly its 3 points for being caught over 30 by a camera, if you go 15 mph over the speed limit then apparantly its 6 points.

Not too sure but id expect as much, 55mph in a 30 zone is just stupid dude.

I do feel for people that get caught and understand them trying to find a excuse out of it,afterall i currently have 2 convictions for over 100mph and 14 points.Nothing in the last 18 months though ive been a good boy.

you mean you either haven't been caught or you bricking it because another one and your licence is gone for a year?

the advice i was always given was:

if you were speeding and get caught dont deny it, accept it like a man, if you are willing to do the crime, then accept the time.

especially if you were 83% over the speed limit, if you contest those then judges dont look kindly on it and will more than likely increase your fine to high 3 figures or low 4 figures. possibly even through in a dangerous driving charge, especially as you were speeding in a 30mph zone and by 25mph, thats a no no.

im sorry but in my opinion you deserved that ticket, 25mph over a 30mph limit is a pretty poor display of judgement and driving.

yup agreed the cops were doing you a favour giving you a £60 fine and 3 points in my experience thats 6 points and a bigger fine. i reckon you were lucky. and if that was me, theres no way i would contest it, i would be thinking about my driving style.

and a word of warning, anything you say on an internet forum can be used against you in a court of law. if i remember it was pistonheads where someone was in a accident and posted about it, similar to how you have, how can i reduce my sentence. traffic cops obviously are fully aware of the internet and read similar sites for advanced warning of meets and races, came across his, searched his post history and found lots of posts bragging about racing and how fast he goes, arranging race meets on quiet roads. which they dually passed over to the prosecution who used it to show his character, arrogance and history of speeding and dangerous driving and he got jailed for 3 months and had to wear a tag for a further 3 months.

Coppers can be nice that way!

I've been done twice so far, both are nearly off my licence. First time I got done was for 46 in a 40 by a camera van parked 300yds from a national speedlimt sign, in the cameras eye, speeding is speeding no matter the conditions, 3pts and £60. The next time was by a copper, he tagged me doing 117 at one point on the M62, but as i had seen him and slowed down he ended up writing it up as 97 for 3pts and £60 as it wasn't very busy, good conditions etc (plus i don't think he could be bothered going to court which was pretty much what he said when talking to me in the car).

Take it on the chin is my advice.

So you were overtaking over a blind crest at 55 in a 30 zone?

Instead of trying to worm your way out of the punishment, how about growing a pair, take it on the chin and learn from your mistakes?

To be honest if you get away with only 3 points you're lucky, so I'd just leave it at that if I were you. :)

I'd love to know how fast your speedo said you were going seeing as most read high than the actual speed, My money says you were probably doing about 60 inidcated which is plain silly in a 30 zone, take your punishment like a man and learn you lesson. Being late for work is the lamest excuse for speeding fair enough if you misses is giving birth on the back seat or you bleeding to death!

Boarder line loosing your license there m8. We all speed but theres a place and a time to do it, and its not in a 30mph zone. I got done in a 30 doing 35mph, lesson learnt! You won't find a way out sorry

its just a normal, notice of intended prosecution, stating the speed they clocked me at

The important thing is what does it say?

Are they offering you 3 points and £60 fine (standard NIP afaik)

If so, then you'd be an idiot not to fill it in and send it back asap.

Try and take it to court and you could easily lose your licence imo.
